megapixel is just how big ur picture will look when u transfer it to computer..
my fujifilm f50fd 12megapixel but put on com 4000x3000 pixel so big oso no use.. gotta resize small lol.. it looks damn nice on the camera screen nia.. coz the camera screen small, looks sharp..but of coz 12mega pix got its good pt la.. big pics la..
but usually 6megapix good enuf.. normally now digicams ard 3 or 4x optical zoom, so if ur budget is 200, get 6megapixel, 3 or 4x optical zoom, very value for money, not considered kena chopped.. of coz if u get better den dat, good for u haha..
and oh yah.. if u have decided on the camera, i have a list of shops and their contact numbers, u can call them and ask wat their prices are for the cameras.. the difference quite big one.. by 40-60bucks one.. pm me for it if u want, i wun be at home tmr though..
all this are some stuff i sort of learnt when i was looking for a digicam too haha.. not really a pro at this.. just looked for info nia.. hope is of use..

3x optical zoom most common. 4x optical a bit harder to find cheap ones. 3x most common. When taking pictures and you need to zoom, try to ONLY use optical zoom and avoid digital zoom like poison.
After taking pictures, edit it yourself before sending it for printing. Because if you just send it to photo shops for printing, they won't bother editing the pictures for you. If you do it yourself, you can resize it to about 800x600, increase the contrast and sharpen the picture. If not why you think the picture of the peacock look so nice? Cause I got edit. ![]()
great info there, purpledragon!

Taking pictures of building don't necessarily need good optical zoom. 3x should also be enough, unless you want to be a professional. What's most important is looking for a camera where it's sensor is sensitive and colours look vibrant and there's as little noise as possible.
Optical zoom means it zooms by adjusting it's lenses. While digital zoom means the camera's brain zooms in digitally without any movement from the lenses. Digital zoom will degrade picture quality very badly.

optical zoom is sort of like really testing how good ur camera is lo.. like 3x is like can zoom 3x without affecting clarity of the pictures.. but must oso take into consideration something called ISO, it affects how "grainy" ur picture looks, and will be extremely bad when u have poor lighting.. if u have a hp camera, and u zoom all the way, u can see that the picture gets VERY grainy, which is bad, and made worse with poor lighting..
digital zoom is just blowing up the picture lo, like after u take a picture liao, u still desperate to zoom, it just makes the picture bigger, not clearer..
pictures of buildings all those i buay hiao liao hahaha.. paiseh ah, i bought the cam that time i learned abt clarity when taking pictures of me and gf haha..
But grainy pictures can also be attributed to the CCD/CMOS sensor of the camera. Phone's camera usually very lousy, so there's tons of noise.
thanks alot for the info alleggerita and purpledragon! now i can sort of differentiate liao lol
i understand the 'grainy' thing.. like sometimes i use phone cam and take photos and zoom all the way, the pic will turn out to be blurrish.... are there any ways to avoid such situation? like you zoom yet the pic look fine instead of some blurrish thing here and there.. not sure of the ISO thing tho

When lighting is low, increase ISO. And I won't recommend you to zoom with your phone's camera. Over 99% of cameraphones do not have optical zoom. It's nearly all just digital zoom. So if you zoom in, be prepared for grainy pictures and horrible picture quality.
In my experience, if you're getting a digital camera, try NOT to buy those with retractable lens...where they go in/out whenever you zoom in/out. My previous 2 digicams end up with the lens stuck in the open. Here's my advice..TRUST me, get the SAMSUNG NV3, good picture quality PLUS other features:

thanks
caver ur first link is broken. how much is that model? It looks like the nikon coolpix s6 that i'm currently looking at actually. If it's more expensive den it perhaps i'll sitck to nikon. ![]()
I just checked out my Nikon. It's a Coolpix L11. I think it's the most basic Coolpix model with 6.0-Megapixels and 3x optical zoom. I sometimes find it too basic because I can't make detailed changes to how the camera operates. The camera is very automated. It automatically helps me select ISO, exposure, etc. I have very little control over it. I can't even adjust ISO myself.
But surprisingly and luckily, the pictures usually come out the way I want it.
ur one the lens can move in and out one me dunch like leh. So maybe i go for coolpix S6. But dunoe they got gib SD card anot.

Ya, my lens move in and out. I very scared one day spoil, which i'm sure it will.
Try looking for promotions where they give free gifts together with the camera. Usually free gifts got include memory cards.
ok man~ gonna get my hands on a digi cam ASAP. I will look em up after my last paper tml. Den i take pix to post here ![]()

Have fun choosing your camera!
hey hey hello people, will i be right to say that if i only plan to put pics on blogs and view on camera, a 6 MP cam will be sufficient?
or does Megapixels translate to sharper and clearer images?

aiyoh.. knock ur head la.. haha.. told u le.. megapixel only determines how big ur picture will be.. and yes.. a 6MP cam is sufficient if u wanna put on blogs and view on camera.. becoz the picture will not be too big.. so it will remain clear.. its NOT clear simply becoz the megapixel is alot.. ok? ![]()
remember to ask if the camera got anti-shakyhands technology or not.. if not if u shaky hands den clarity will be affected too..
hhahhaha okokok paiseh just clarify again coz my mum fren was telling me more mega pixels better. XD
Thanks ya~
usually 6-higher, when u buy cam, must use the feature u have bought, the telemacro is good to take flowers/plants, close up
another one is dunno wad u can just focus on the charactor u are taking, the backgraound will just 'blur'
My camcorder's 3megapixel cam not bad, maybe cos of the 3ccd
