The N-Prize is an insanely cool competition to test if you can launch something small into space.
The website says
The N-Prize is a cash prize of £9, 999.99 (nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine pounds and ninety-nine pence, sterling), which will be awarded to the first person or group to put into orbit, around the Earth, a satellite with a mass of between 9.99 and 19.99 grams, and to prove that it has completed at least 9 orbits. The cost of the launch (but not ground facilities) must fall within a budget of £999.99. Imaginative use of string and chewing gum is encouraged. Entrants are responsible for everything, organisers are responsible for nothing.
It would be really interesting to see if this is going to be won at all or anyone who tries it will be deemed a "dangerous threat to national security" and then arrested ![]()

uhh.. not the whole thing..
they want to launch a satellite which weighs between 9.99g and 19.99g.. the rest can be as huge as you want as long as the whole thing doesn't cost more than £999.99
Anyone thought of putting a truck load of mentos into a huge ass coke bottle filled with coke?
the bear, think the cost of the launch must not be more than £999.99 not the satellite itself.
Hi all, the total cost of anything which isn't re-useable has to be under £999.99. So, for example, you can spend as much as you like on ground facilities or on re-useable vehicles, provided that you could repeat the launch for no more than £999.99.
Feel free to join the N-Prize group - linked from the "contact" page on www.n-prize.com.
To insanity and beyond!

there is enough junk orbiting earth already - pls stop this nonsense
http://www.space.com/spacewatch/space_junk.html
1999 study estimated there are some 4 million pounds of space junk in low-Earth orbit, just one part of a celestial sea of roughly 110,000 objects larger than 1 centimeter -- each big enough to damage a satellite or space-based telescope.
edit - add space junk link
