It does appears that the student suffers from academic stress. Studies have shown that students who suffers from this "illness" tend to have very violent nature. As they are unable to relieve their stress, their character turns bad. I also suspect that the student is from a gang. Even a student who is suffering is quite unlikely (not totally impossible tho) to leave the class amidst lessons.
You guys should watch Discovery Channel's show " Brat Academy". Its a documentary thats documented in china that shows how their parents deal with their 'brat' kids. They send their children to special schools known as "Brat Academy", where they are trained both mentally and physically to correct them off their bad behaviors. Trainers in these camp believed that the problem of bad behavior came from academic stress and social stress.
Parents nowadays have 2 or only 1 children. Hence, the kids have no one to turn to when they are suffering from the stress to relieve themselves, since their parents are often occupied by work. Children in the past used to have multiple siblings, hence when one of them faces stress, they would seek out one another to relieve themselves. However, kids now are getting more and more stress and have almost no possible way to relieve themselves, which can result in behavioral problems.

i guess that guy was merely trying to flaunt his "boldness" in front of the class so as not to paint a picture of fear on his face. i've got friends who often get themselves into trouble with school authorities and their "trademark" line would be ,"i'm not scared of the teacher."
talk about playing it cool. but, it's pretty cool in a way to flout rules and all. just don't go overboard. ((((=

i dunno. i think teachers should be given the right to take discilplinary actions.
i mean, it's possible to have the passion for teaching killed by idiots who don't want to learn.
i love teaching, but if i have a few rascals, i think i'll be prone to just ignore them, since i cannot do anything about it, and let them ruin their own future.
