SINGAPORE: It was a challenge very much like a sport activity, but perhaps quite unique to Singapore. The aim was to pick the best bargain hunters, and the occasion was to launch this year’s Great Singapore Sale on Saturday.
The Great Singapore Shopping Challenge was back for the 5th year. But this year, contestants had to complete various activities that reflect Singapore’s culture, at several stops.
There were eight teams from Singapore and 19 from other countries, including Southeast Asia, China, Australia and the Middle East.
Teams of two were each given S$1,000 to grab the best bargains from selected categories at three malls.
The winners were those who completed the challenge in three hours and managed to get the most dollar savings.
The shopaholics get to keep their purchases, with the top teams from the local and international categories walking away with S$10,000 worth of shopping vouchers.
The winners were announced at Wisma Atria on Orchard Road and they received their prizes from Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Indranee Rajah. — CNA/ir
Ill definitely be at the Kinokuniya sale... cant wait to get my hands on some books :D
LV oso got join in the discount mae? Their bags cost hundreds to the thousands... 10% discount is a hell lot!
I just wanna get some cheap and interesting shirts and maybe a pair of jeans. Cheap stuff can look like a million bucks depending on how you wear it... brand is not important at all.

MasterCard cardholders spend 33% more in first month of GSS
Judging by MasterCard, this year's Great Singapore Sale could be a roaring success.
The card issuer says spending by its cardholders rose 33 percent in the first month of the Sale as compared to last year.
Singaporeans charged more than $300 million to the MasterCards, with
the number of transactions increasing 9 percent to 2.2 million.
MasterCard says this is a reflection of how optimistic consumers in Singapore are about the 2nd half outlook.
Tourists are also making the best use of the privileges and deals available, charging some $165 million, 17 percent more.
Among them, Australians were the biggest spenders.
Most of the spending were done in restaurants and food & beverage outlets, watch and jewellery and department stores. - 938Live
