Watanabei sounds like wo de na bei, Was there a Nabu in japanese? I know Nabe means pot. anyway, i think its our dialects, especially hokkien that makes fun of other languages, I have customer whose name is pronounced as korneh, i know a customer whos dialect name is Kam Lan (meaning Stupid in hokkien). In mandarin its pronounced as Jin Lan, I dont think japanese words can be as absurbed as chinese ones, escpecially dialects.

I remember in HWZ there was one guy whose name was Nina Kan(japanese). However,due to his preference of choosing his nickname - he named it kannina
