  Structurally, it is the same, only cantonese have some vulgarities that chinese dun possess, in fact, in Canton and Hongkong, cantonese is a language rather than a dialect. They read chinese characters in cantonese.

  i can speak quite well but sometimes when watch canto drama/movies cant catch coz they speak too fast n use cheem words sometimes

  "seck zhuo mei" is local cantonese (chup pa lung).    "seck bao meh" is HOng Kong cantonese.

  Local "chup pa lung" Cantonese -  "mata" means police.   Hong Kong Cantonese "keng chut".   Kit Chan made blunder in speaking Cantonese when she worked in Hong Kong.   There was once she told someone "mata" and that Hong Kong person did not understand what "mata" was.    From that day onwards, Kit knew "mata" is not a Cantonese word but a Malay word for police.   Very embarassing.

  I speak cantonese. Mom is cantonese and learnt from her and all the HK dramas which, frankly speaking, are tons better than Mediacorp's crap.

  Fail lah.   Zao lei lock yu means it is going to rain.  teen hou hark means sky is very dark.
