auckland university, u are looking at around NZD$22K a yr for tuition ( NZD to SGD is like 1:1). nice Uni nice big Asian population. No many Singaporeans. had friend studying there now and most ppl tend to ask, why not go Oz!
why The University of Newcastle? their forte is Edu and music? or cost is cheap and they do offer double major in teaching/arts or child edu/arts etc.. Singaporean still value named brand. stay safe head to GO8. at AUD$15.5K, I rather go auckland. Their strength might not be in this area but at least its the best uni there.
physical distance is misleading, once U are out of SG U are far away from home. any accidents was to happen (touch wood), still takes time to get to U. I rather go for best value for $$. its a life time thingy. if U are thinking of returning every break summer and winter, airfare isn't getting any cheaper. esp U are flying to NZ. airfare is cheaper if U fly from Perth, then agan UWA is not cheap at AUD$18.5K. Do offer double degree Edu/Art(Music). then again its 4.5yrs long, honors yrs optional. wanna do double honors I think U need extra 2 yrs! miss home so much stay so near but then end up studying for a longer time 4.5yrs to 6.5yrs. US system jiao you a bit and U should be able to make it in under 3.5yrs.
I believe U are a lady, NZ is no shopping paradise, a big nature paradise if U enjoy the sea, hike etc. US is a shopping paradise, UMN is just mins away from Mall of America, all the A&F cheap cheap.. LOL.. ( of course thats a invalid reason going so far to study!)
BTW: Oz and NZ system are not much different from Local System. The English way not the American Way. ppl say Local uni churn out ppl that "du si shu" but I bet n matter where these ppl go they still do it. Its 1 approach to learning. Uni don't teach U the approach.
without a choice U are living in Singapore, U gotta go thru NIE. or U can choose to apply to NIE directly. Isn't gov sector unknown preference on where U grad from? if thats the case I wouldn't risk it for the distance.
to teach @ NAFA U need a Masters I reckon, the same goes with LASALLE. on top of that U will need working experience.

wow wega007, how come u seem to know so much abt overseas unis. NZ was in my consideration solely because i always wanted to go there. im very fine with being the minority of asians there. newcastle uni has this flexibility in picking of electives, other than doing the basic subjects. i can take modules more towards art and music. canada? haha, too cold.

take the bachelor of art education in nafa. then you dont have to take extra years in nie. its a program created by moe and nafa.
i forgot to mention, try goldsmith college in london. many art teachers who went through nie training were from there..

UBC have very high entry requirement. If U are from Poly background chances of getting in directly is slim unless U have a B+ avg. Majority if not all Singaporeans there are from JC.
cost at UBC isn't cheap. at around CND$20K its the more expensive Uni in Canada. U can get good quality education at Uni like Uni of Western Ontario, York Uni, McMaster, Mcgill for less. I understand cost of living at Vancouver is on the raise.
Canada isn't as cold as U think, part of the US 48 states can be colder. No one actually sleep out doors and stay outdoors that long. as a student majority of your time is indoors and they are all heated. Asian students that have been there long enough can wear surprisingly little with all the snow! I really don't understand why the fear of Cold. Do U know the population of Canada is like 10M more than OZ. so cold why so many siao ppl wanna stay there. back in 1997 Canada is the top choice for Hongkees to run to. Singapore is an Interesting country, we perfer distance over "repuation of Uni". ppl in Taiwan, China, HongKong, Japan tend to placed OZ as their last option after UK/US/Canada. Canada is not a popular choice as they have strict and high English requirement.
