i have never used it before. But i think it is based on 3G internet. the same way your mobile connects to check email, surf web ect. but the skype in handphones are the exact identical ones u find on the computer. But skype on handphone can be used to call other handphones which skype is installed.
and the charges for this call are a fixed $5 a month which comes with 4000 minutes.

yes there is internet almost everywhere in OZ. And also u dont need a landline modem, there is a mobile broadband mini wireless usb modem which works on 3G or something like that.
$5 is for the service for skype to call mobile phones? You still need to pay for internet connection for the phone to use skype. How stable is the connection? can you make the call everywhere? how good is the reception?
skype is free for calling from computer to computer as long as got internet connection

landlines? so it will work in all buildings, but not outside of buildings? or they WIFI the whole OZ? if there is no charge for internet, than why should you pay the $5? just connect to the internet and call your friend with skype.

I thought it would look like a flash drive inserted into the usb port.
but so how is this linked to the skpe phone thingie? is it linked that way? do the handset connect to internet, than call the guy from skype account?.will the line connected that way be reliable, cheap and available everywhere?

Not sure if you are talking about computer or phone....
For computer... all you need to have internet connection. Go to http://www.skype.com/ to download the software. And buy a headset and you can call any of your friends with skype account for free. Otherwise you will need to buy some credits to call any landline or mobile.
i think skype on handphone works through internet connect too. like in eg. OZ 3G internet, but according to the handphone subscriber, there will be no charges for skype. I am not too sure how it works but in Oz, deceptive marketing is not allowed. So i think its true.

No, skype on mobile phone and this usb thing is not related. you dont need this usb thing to run skype on your handphone. all modern handphone is capable of connecting to internet all by itself
This usb thing is just portable internet for your notebook ect.. it works on 3G.the same way your mobile phone works. One is a phone, the other is a modem. get that?
