I checked recent prices in Sep balloting. For a 3 room in Bt Merah, it'd cost almost 270k!! This is crazy considering the income ceilig is 3k for the household. How will the person be able to pay the instalment unless he has a lot in CPF/cash to reduce the loan!!
What is the reasonable amount one can expect to pay for a new 4 room flat? Or 5 room flat?
What about location?

5 room flat in same area $650000

Better make sure you earn 10K in total between you and your spouse.

yea .. funny yea, suppsoedly we are doing damn well as a country .. even get dividends somemore .. but what's $100 to a $100k increase in "government housing"?
not only is the material distinction between govt housing and private housing negligible, but also, it's just insane thinking about their target demograph (considering their many restrictions) .. how will such people ever pay off their house ... 30yr home loan can be done .. but that's assuming life goes smoothly for them w/o any of the shit that falls (illness/recession etc.).
EDIT: but let's nto forgot the bigger picture .. POSSIBLY, policy objectives they hope to achieve - practical implications means yougn people staying home with parents, fostering of traditional values and support of the aging population (less burden on govt for welfare). but all these are just possibilities .. for all you know even if they come out and admit it, it'll just a nice way of putting, "HEY WE NEED MORE MONEY FOR OUR SOVEREIGN INVESTMENT FUND". lol - you can never know the govt's plans .. harder to predict than the stock market, which moves as a reflection of the co., and shareholders' faith in the co. govt on the other hand .. who knows ...
i have deep respect for LKY/LHL/PAP .. but i never dismiss the off 0.0001% possibility that they have ulterior motives.

you can't insist on good location, then bitch about the price like it has nothing to do with your decision.
