A friend of mine was hoping to get a part time job at an orphanage after her exams, though I think most are actually volunteers. Still, any idea if there's any orphanages around?

birth rates and orphans are not really related.
Look at China and U will see why.
Even in singapore...Shit happens...and there are orphans around...and pseudo-orphans if U like.

My sister waited so long for a child from the orphanage that she gave up and looked to Malaysia for one.....

no no...by definition...birth rate is the ratio between births and individuals in a specified population and time ...It has nothing to do with whether the baby is an orphan or not.
TS asked for orphanages (perhaps to volunteer)here may be some constructive answer:
i personally know some of them,those primary school kids there are so much fun...
