ok.....both of you are harping on tastebuds......
I eat, I taste. But I am a lousy cook.
And taste is subjective......the food may be as bland as nothing, but people can still gobble up the food when they are 1. hungry 2. reminded of their past. 3. cant taste it after burnig the tongue with curry & chilli.
Well, learn from basic... go for jobs like kitchen staff in restaurant, then work your way up.

LOL ! Do you even cook for a living ? I like how foodbloggers and people that think they understand a whole lot of food or how a kitchen works come telling chefs what to do.
MSG ? Ha ! No professional chef will use MSG.
I never said i was a great chef, but i do take offense to what you just wrote.

Because its for kids, there is eggs, beaten with fresh milk and a dallop of shredded parmesan cheese.
heat pan, some oil, pour in the eggs mixture, wait till the eggs at the sides of the pan starts to firm, fold them sides in with the spatulaand kinda stirr the eggs till they are softy firmed up.
I sreve them with a steam tomato stuffed with minced meat and rice moulded from cups.
yeah, i do it a different way from that.

no worries boss
nowadays so many people hide behind the protection of their monitors.
parents never teach him to respect the pros.
you sir, have my salutation, being a chef ain't easy.
Yes babe, I am the one with cancer and a broken wrist from a motorcycling accident. This will be the details for this year.
I know you are not talking to me, and I didnt make myself clear that I appreciate chefs who are passionate about their craft.

I like that "No professional chef will use MSG" but is it truly practice? wonder if it's ever practice here. I am not telling what to do nor I m qualified to that. i dont cook for a living but I live to eat

i don't know whether singaporean chef uses em, i only worked there for 6 months. the only restaurants that really use msg here are those in Chinatown or Pho noodle houses.
using of msg is frown upon and trust me, food critics and writes do know. chefs in canada do take stands and we have organizations where we stand against using certain products to even fishes. i don't serve chilean seabass or even swordfish in my restaurant. it's against my stand and they are about to be endangered.
like i said earlier, you have your views. i'm not saying it's wrong but if that is what you believe, good on you.
Some chefs/cooks wont use MSG. Sometimes MSG is not needed.
Some, especially those catering to huge numbers of patrons, will use msg to enhance the taste of the food so there is no complaints that the food is bland. Cooking in bulk is always a iffy, thus MSG is favoured.

oh for sure ! chinese buffet for 9.99 lunch special ! MSG ! all you can eat indian food 9.99 ! MSG for sure. Caterers do sometimes use MSG.
I used to work in transit Cafe in sg airport departure hall. msg goes into soups, that battered fried fish and chips & most dishes involving veggies.
Mom used to have a stall in Singapore Zoo selling laksa, yong tau hu & fried kway teow.
The plain for the yong tau hu will have soya beans in it and my mother will drop in a cube of chicken stock.
The laksa young tau hu was popular and so is the fried kway teow. I think the zookeepers do realise that the laksa & fried kway teow has no MSG. :D
BTW, is it true?
Fren like some of the old men chefs I know, says he dont cook at home or at his off days?
fren said that he did enough cooking on work days and refuse to cook on his off days.
And he always has food channel on his TV in his room every night, every day when he is at home.
Do you chefs do that too?
And the old men chefs I know. I dont see them eating stuffs from the kitchen. Instead they munch on japanese rice biscuits aka 'wang wang' kinds.

well, i can tell you i do pretty much the same... so do some of the chefs i know in the city. we work 60+ hrs a week standing in the heat cooking. when i get home, i just want a pack of chicken mcnuggets at times ! gross i know ! i enjoy a slice of pizza or a simple bowl of soup.
the only time i will cook at home is when i have guest over or for breakfast on my off day. yeah, that is pretty much about cooking at home for me. i do all my research for new dishes at work.
for tv, pretty true about the food network. i catch the good food shows when im back then it's just bob dylan after that while i enjoy a few glasses of wine. i know for sure my other chef friends do the same. but when we were cooks, it was partying every night getting drunk and working for 12 hrs the next day with a hangover !
at work i'm pretty stern with my cooks. no eating on the line ! eat during your break.

it is the chef and server's job of each restaurant to educate the customers what they are putting into their mouths. we do it at my place. my servers are trained in the kitchen too, so they understand what food is all about.
what do you term by junk food ?
