just now (Monday, 10 Nov / 8 PM), got a TV show on Channel 8 starring Christopher Lee and Quan Yifeng, whereby they visit some of Singapore's poorest families who are in total dire straits (all retarded, cannot work etc.).
today's episode is on a family and in the family, one of the daughter is like paralysed or in some sort of retardness syndrome, but according to Quan Yifeng and the family photos, she wasn't like this in the past!
She was a lively girl, rather pretty and tanned, quite tall etc.....how come she end up like this? The face like grow 30 years older, she lose the teeth, entire face is like sagging and bony, eyes also twisted, entire body cannot move......I'm very curious to know the reason.
I know they explained in the show, but I watched only halfway due to need to do some things just now. What kind of freak illness / sickness is this?
whoa......i really feel farking sorry for her.......haiz.....
thanks.
something like what happen to the girl in ONe litre of tears?
the harsh truth is everyone is a hypocrite lar....ask this forum lar....where got time to cry over other's problem...some wud give a few dollars to tide over their conscience, that's all.
no one would really empathise with such misery until one kenna oneself and then wallow in misery lor or seek public sympathy and get others to cry ard u ![]()
A serious car accident maybe? I saw a news report on a guy like that before too. Totally different from his former self...
It's a good thing that Mediacorp has come up with the show... It's sad that the poorer Singaporeans with difficulties are often forgotten... Not to be cynical, but money is really the main driving force here... Those without the financial means are usually left struggling with few resources to help them...
status epilepticus.
her fever wasn't brought down in time.
its sad.
Can hardly believe she was that pretty.
Gaah. Life is very cruel.
Is there any cure for her?
I was close to being like her. I had a 42 deg plus fever and went into a fit when i was 5 but luckily after some jabs the fever went down.
I lost my hearing as a result ;/
drastic change man, amitofo...
doubt there can be much help to her, brain damage to this extent... recover may be difficult.
sigh.

she had high fever that wasn't brought down in time, as a result it may have damaged the brain cells and led to degeneration of the brain cells. i think it has reached a stage where it is somewhat similar to cerebral palsy. tragic.

I admire her father seriously.
oh i see! thanks!
yes, my aunt has the same syndrome as her, in that when she was young and got super-high fever, my grandma never treated her in time and she's like the girl in the show, but she can walk, talk, although her actions is something like 8 year old kid, and sometimes, she's smart but most of the time, quite lunatic.....really sad.
also, i believe Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) can happen any one of us? like if we get 37 degree fever and never see doctor and let it rise to 42+ degree, we will be like her?
scary, man.....i think it's also her parents' fault that she end up like this......
anyway, this show is not only to get $$$ for the family, but to serve as a reminder to us all spoilt brat singaporeans that there's a lot of unfortunate families out there while people nowadays still can lust for iPod and MP3s.....
it kinds of serves as a wake-up call for us.
