What does astigmatism really means??? can we get astigmatism on top of myopia? And i just found out that mine astigmatism is 50. Is it alot? And also, does everyone who has 50 in astigmatism exactly the same??? and similarly, does everyone who has 100 degree in myopia can share the same spectacles?? cause i have seen the prescription slip, and it doesn't write anything about degrees or 50 in value for astigmatism...its like -2.5 or someting like that..so i'm confused. TIA
yeah. u can get myopia + astigm. i'm the victim.
A serious case of astigmatism

it can be corrected by reshaping the cornea of the eye via lasik i think. no worries =)
i got astigmatism, also known as shan guang
i got it too...
i hate wearing glasses but if i dun, stuff will look blurry when i'm not tired....it gets worse when i'm tired...
the difference in clarity when i wear specs vs when i dun wear specs is like differentiating between a HDTV and a normal television...
mine should be round 50 too...
thank u guys for ur replies...have another question here...does everyone who has 50 in astigmatism exactly the same??? similarly, does everyone who has 100 degree in myopia can share the same spectacles?? cause i have seen the prescription slip, and it doesn't write anything about degrees or 50 in value for astigmatism...its like -2.5 or someting like that..so i'm confused whether the degrees in everyone is the same...

nope, what i meant was whether if a person who had 100 "degrees" of myopia, will mean exactly similar to another person who has 100 degrees of myopia??? or can there be a variation???

errr yes? 100 is 100 what...
100 mean 100D. It is a wrong way saying what correction. I think it should be -1.00D. D=diopters, used to measure power.1/(focal length in meters).
astigmatism, bit more complicated, 0.5 (or 50 as you say) is not corrected as most of the time the brain can adopt to it, -2.50 may need correction. it is also important to know what is your axis. http://www.lensdesign.ca/toric.htm

wow. ur good. thanks for replying. so lets say i have "100 degrees and 50 in astigmatism for both eyes", and i have a friend who similarly have "100 degrees and 50 in astigmatism for both eyes", will we be prescribed exactly the same lens? as in we can share the same spectacles without any problems?
