It depends on the location.
if the stairways have fire alarms linked to it. Cannot opened from the staircase side.

My home there got alot, my office also got alot. Canteen on the 2nd floor next to the stairs, they rather wait 5 mins for cleaner to mop the lift floor, and walk another 50m from the lift landing to the canteen.

Then the stairs are faster then elevators of course.
Even I, with high heels can run up 3 storeys of stairs. And me with a injured left knee some more.
But since I am older, and the limbs no longer responding that well, taking the lift is only for when the legs are really bad conditions.

Reminds me of this comic about a bunch of fat ladies going to gym at the top floor of a 4 storey building.
They got away from the building because the lift is out of order.

I do that, only when i cannot carry the whole trolley of hardware up the stairs
Me working in simlim, shop at 5th floor, so everyday i take from 1st to 5th floor, i see many people from 1st floor to 2nd also take lift

sim lim 1st floor to 2nd floor I take escalator.

i would use the stairs or escalators..
even in HDB, pple who stay on the 2nd floor take lift to the 1st floor..
