I'm practicing in Australia, but I believe that the requirements for registration in Singapore are more relaxed in terms of amount of practice hours under supervision (800 hours compared to 960). In any case, you're going to need a minimum of a Master's degree from what's described here: http://www.singaporepsychologicalsociety.org/register.cfm
The upshot of this is that getting into the undergrad course is only the beginning - you'll also need to clear your third-year undergrad to get into Honours, and then clear Honours to get into Master's. We're talking about a total of six years of university. I don't know what the selection ratio is at NUS, but at Melbourne Uni my doctorate class of 12 was selected from a pool of 1200 Honours grads.
Now if you're all right with that, go for it! ![]()
why u want to be a shrink?

Dunno about that guy, but I just love screwing with people's heads! ![]()
it's not that wise to practice psychology as a livelihood in singapore..most likely a closed market here..anyway, there's a lot of type of psychologists around..my friend has a degree in psychology from JCU and he is practicing as a counsellor instead of a psychologist..i think u may need Msc in order to practice...

Well, Laz, the damage is already done - I'm not going to make things any worse by monkeying around in there, am I? ![]()
And I hate that "mind reading" crap. It's a whole lot more fun suckering people into telling me everything about themselves. ![]()

Master, was that an undergrad degree your friend's got? If so, it's no surprise. From what I understand from the Singapore Psych Society's website, you can do psych work with an undergrad degree but you need to be overseen by a registered psych.
In any case, I'm sticking with org psych - after all, how many counsellors do you see wearing Brioni? ![]()
There isn't a great demand for psychologists in sg.
Hee hee hee, we have a patient in sgforums who is a psychiatric, psycho patient.
Having said that , the job of a psychologist can be a challenging one. Have the chance to chat up a colleague psychologist who shared with me the challenge of her job. You can opt to work in schools, hospitals as a psychologist
i interested in taking psychologist course... wonder any part time for office people bo?...
It's six years full-time, so you're going to take a helluva long time to get there part-time.

He wants to be a psychologist not a psychiatrist.
It's not a matter of rank so much as a matter of training. Counselling is a skill that falls within the psych field, but psychology covers a lot more than that.
I'm not too certain what the situation is in Singapore, but in other countries you can't practice as a psychologist without professional registration, and it takes more in terms of qualifications than it does to become a counsellor.

Pretty much, unless you can find another university that'll take you in for Honours. Even then, you've still got another hurdle to clear to get to Master's, so if you do get a reprieve, you're going to have to make the most of it.

Hey, pop round to my office and test that theory.
We've got a new director who wears Canali.
