Parents identify body of NTU student who stabbed professor
body of NTU undergraduate David Widjaja, who jumped to his death after stabbing his professor on campus, has been identified by his parents at the Singapore General Hospital mortuary.
They flew in from Jakarta yesterday evening after the school authorities notified them of the tragedy.
Speaking to 938LIVE, President of NTU Su Guaning said that David's parents were briefed of the entire incident.
"We informed the parents of the student very quickly after the incident happened, and they flew into Singapore yesterday evening. We accompanied them all the way and put them up at the university campus. And they had a briefing of all the details, as well as looking at the actual place where the incident happened. We arranged for some of the students, good friends, to brief them on the students life here in NTU."
David's parents and his elder brother were accompanied by NTU counsellors and officials from the Indonesian Embassy here.
Professor Su said they're still deciding whether to bring the body back to Jakarta or cremate him in Singapore.
Meanwhile,
Professor Chan Kap Luk is recovering at the NUH, after undergoing an emergency operation yesterday to stitch up the wounds to his back.
A finger on his right hand was also placed in a splint.
He's expected to be discharged in a few days' time, says Professor Su.
"Professor Chan is still in hospital. Although when I saw the doctor yesterday when I visited him, the doctors say if he does well he might even be discharged today but we're not counting on that necessarily. But it will certainly be a few days' time before he is discharged anyway."

What is the point of terminating people's scholarship when they have only a few more months to go?

ASEAN scholars are monitored sem by sem de ler... if he can get 3.5 above till 3rd year, at most the sch can issue 1 more warning nia, coz after 3rd only left 2 more sems to study ler..

There might be some covering up. The student is a straight As student who has also represent indonesia in the maths olympiad international level. I have seen lots of cases of students are more gifted than their professors so i wont be surprised if this is the case also.
Probably the student guai lan, never care about the professor so the professor fail him or make him stay back for one more semester. His cap/gpa probably didnt fall below 3.5 but because he has to stay back another semester, he wont be sponsored for that sem?
most foreign scholars in NTu, there grades are above 4.5
meaning first class honour materials
3.5 is really nothing and its chicken feet to them

stay back another semester is a disaster, it's even worst than failing a module in any midway semester, means honours degree (and possibly even future) all gone already, not even 3rd class honour, this is not likely to happen to foreign students as they are smarter than locals
