Hi friends. Currently I'm using a D40, been using for a year already. I'm planning to switch over to a D80 or a D90.
Which one should I opt for? I usually take pictures of outdoor and nature, not really into events/wedding photography.
Btw it's amatuer photography, not for professional use.
Thanks people.
Which one more expensive?
whichever's cheaper.
D90 with full kit is $1667 and includes 8GB SD card, Tripod and the Nikon Bag
D80 with full kit is $1391 and includes 8GB SD card, Tripod, cleaning kit and the Nikon Bag.
I've read in many forums that D90 is a generation apart from D80 and it's obsolute to get the D80 but I've seen many photos taken by the D90 and D80 and D80 has richer colors compared to D90.
Stuck in this spot at the moment, sigh.
shoot raw
then colours don't matter
which brings me back to "whichever's cheaper"
there are lots of gimmicks in cameras where people don't really use.

So I should get the cheaper one, D80? The thing I like about the D90 is the live view, but the rich colors of the D80 has enticed me.
Sorry but what's shoot raw? Please bear with me, I'm just a year into photography. Thanks.

don't bother about live view, its a gimmick for those who are so used to point-and-shoot digital cameras.
when you shoot raw, your camera doesn't compress the file into JPG format.
meaning u get an 'untouched' file.
from there u can adjust vibrance, brightness, clarity, saturation.. etc etc THEN you export as a jpg file

I see. So I should go with the D80? What are you using at the moment?

well if u are going to use it for general photography
the cmos sensor on the d90 should be the preferred choice
if u do landscape and u have a tripod.
ISO 200 and maybe something like 30sec shutter speed isn't an issue for u, then go ahead with the d80
what do i use? u don't wanna know because its irrelevant ![]()

I see. I think I'll go ahead with the D90 and get a new lens while I'm at it.
Haha, why is what you're using is irrelevant?

because i shoot other things
basically u have to know what you are shooting and what u requirements u need
i just need megapixels

Thanks buddy, you have been helpful![]()
TS, you might want to consider switching to Canon DSLR as their lens are good and picture quality are alot better.
You can check out www.clubsnap.com forums.
Its very informative and you can get suggestions from professional photographers. Its a place where all photographers meet, be it pro or amateur, though some people are stuck-up with attitude problem.

i wouldn't recommend that place ![]()
it filled with a bunch of people who forget that when there's a bad picture, the fault lies on them ![]()

Hmm but some of them are nice, they do give tips for the newbies.

Seriously, anyone who really knows about photography would not say such a statement.
Such statement will only invite a flame war if you post it in clupsnap.
Anyway to TS, my suggestion is to go for D90 too.
i think D90 is a combi for vid n pic leh..
sometimes video speaks more..
buy new model lor..
D80 is good too but D90 got extra features.
my hands too small for those..
haahaa

Seriously, anyone who don't know photography, would say about such statements. You might not notice this but clubsnap has got sub threads for any many brands of DSLRs.
Well, that is my preference and i'm trying to share it with TS.
If your eyes are sharp enough and used alot of brands of DSLRs enough, you'll know the difference.

Maybe you read the thread for newbies or amateurs ....![]()

geez, the "pros" there are idiots too ![]()
it doesn't help when everyone is so worried about equipment when they should be brushing up on photography itself.

3 yrs ago I would have agreed that Canon's pic quality is better, but even then, "alot better" is not an appropriate/correct description.
You can try posting such statement (Canon's pic quality is a lot better than Nikon etc) in a common area at Clubsnap, and you can expect a flame war between both sides and closing down of the thread soon.

98% of the "pros" in that forum can't even shoot something like this. the "portraits and poses" section is a damn joke with people who don't bother to touch up their photos. even if they do any editing, it is terrible.
d80.
does the D90 have a tilt swivel lcd screen? if it has, the live view function can be useful for getting over-the-head shots or shots from a weird angle
