when singapore sold the island.. they were in need of money,
and 2.9m pounds is alot last time.. bcause singapore was then still a 3rd world contry and they need money to build up our country

that happened in 1957, Singapore as we knew it, didn't existed then, we were pretty much still a colony, not a country ... even malaysia didn't exist back then .... the ang moh colonial masters say "gib to australia", so Mr Lim, aka Haji Omar gib lor ....
