I recontracted with Singnet last September for an 8MBps plan @ $55 and MIO TV and an Acer Netbook was promised.
Singnet did the following. Read and be forewarned so you'll be aware of the RED DEVIL
1) They backed out of initial deal and insisted that I pay $59/mth instead just to get MIO TV access because there was a "special wireless modem". It was never mentioned that the "special modem" was required before I signed up.
2) They made mistakes in the monthly bills and have only now, 6 months after initial contract, managed to correct the numerous mistakes in the bills
3) When asked for compensation for the time, money and annual leave spent, they pointed to the following:
" As indicated in our website, we do not compensate for any loss.

eneral>
11. Exclusion and Limitation of Liability of the Service Provider
11.1 Notwithstanding any provision in any Customer Agreement to the
contrary:
11.1.1 the Service Provider shall not be liable in any way to
the Customer whether in contract, tort (including negligence or breach of statutory duty) or otherwise for any direct or indirect economic or financial loss or damage (including loss of revenue or profits) howsoever caused or arising, including but not limited to any such loss caused or arising from any breach or failure by the Service Provider to perform any of its obligations under any Customer Agreement;
Since we were not able to resolve matters via emails and phone, I had to initiate a meeting with you so my colleague from Billing could explain the bills to you clearly and subsequently clarify issues in-person. "
If you think CASE can help, you're wrong. They only exist and take "action" is a large group of people encounter the same problem and if the offender is NOT a large, GLC-type company.
standard practice.
just to cover backside.
they're not shitel for nothing
It's 8 Mbps, not 8 MBps. MB (MegaBytes) is Mb (Megabits) divided by 8. Which means your plan is 1 MBps.
By the way, it's funny how I can't access their website when they are a ISP...
most of the services provider in australia also do this, bind u with a contract that u cant take any legal action against. Next time read the fine print carefully before signing up for anything.
Or just next time use the free wirelesss internet @ macdonald
shitel !!!
Cancel lor. If you hold the agreement that you signed, there is nothing to fear.
mio is dumb shit
this teaches u to read properly.
while some of my friends sign blindly, i always make a point to read everything and clarify, make sure that there is no mistakes.
The rule of the thumb is, when u spot an error or if there is mistakes, get it settled and corrected IMMEDIATELY. yes, i really mean it. I know some pple like to drag drag drag and end up paying more den kbkp to Singtel, Singtel will bite u back say they will not be responsible blah bah blah.
it is a two way thing, in my opinion
generally, its good that TS raise this problem to let more people be aware.
thanks TS. I am about to sign up with other broadband service provider.
ask properly next time loh...
Sinktel sucks!
Since it is not the package you have signed, void the contract. Throw the Acer netbook back to them.
Frankly, there's no need to read all the T&Cs. The fine print are stated in such a way that it always protect the company. If u r unhappy about you, you can dun sign. That's fine. But when u go over to the next telco, you'll find that they have similar T&Cs.
That's where the Unfair Contract Terms Act come into play. But seriously, like TS said, if u are only one small tiny weeny consumer vs a telco giant, save it. You'll never win.
Anyway, from the limited details of the case, for item 1 and 2, usually companies will give some vouchers out of goodwill. For item 3, asking for compensation for time, money, etc, I think TS is pushing it too much.
so u think u gettting pawned by all these terms of contract? Think on the bright side, imagine how many divx movies u can download.

even if you cancel, you'll still need to pay the termination fee. That doesn't mean maxonline is better. I'm not exactly a fan of singnet (actually I hate singnet) but it's definately faster than maxonline especially during peak hours. If you wanna pick any contract from singnet, go for the free modem and installation promotion. Don't get those MIO or free notebook nonsense because for sure there will be hidden charges.
well, regret is a part of our daily life..take it dude. Just be smarter the next time, a mistake should make one smarter, if one perform the same mistake again, then one is a fool.
I think I will just go for the normal plan without those MIO TV and stuff...
hmm, my mom also got experience like you.. they gave us the MIO tv thingys too.
firstly, they said that my house area did not have the coverage of something(as MIOtv was new at that time). then after months, my mom called up, enquire why cant we get our MIOtv set up yet, by then my neighbour was already watching with her MIOtv lah.All they do is say that, we'll see into this problem and get back to you.ITS ALREADY A YEAR, they told my mom this, 'oh we cant do anything for you as your have a outstanding amount of bill to pay'
what the fuck is this man? they could have told us like a year back.
plus, singtel reception suck! everytime underground or lift will have no reception... i was just thinking what if someone is stuck somewhere only with her mobile phone with is under singtel, with no reception? they die first?oh yah, i know alot of people will bound to experience this.Whenever you dont pay up your bill, dont they just temporary disconnect your line?and, when you do so.., you have to pay 20buck for the reconnecting fees?even their internet connection stuff is either slow or not responding.whatever they offer are so not worth unlike starhub or m1.tsk tsk.
Dude singtel's under singapore government say it sucks?
uh hur
those cover themself might not all be valid one leh,
i think u shld look at consumer protection act the fair trading one at http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/
from that web
Meaning of unfair practice
4. It is an unfair practice for a supplier, in relation to a consumer transaction —
(a) to do or say anything, or omit to do or say anything, if as a result a consumer might reasonably be deceived or misled;
does this apply to ur case? i duno also, i not lawyer hor, i just learn this in class b4
last time my father sign up for MIO tv then gt problem ask for repair and repair also cannot used, and fed up we give bak the MIO Tv thing and get refund
thats why, singtel is not so good as too last time.
its quite sad man. :S
