Why does Singapore need so many maids?

I'm just curious to find out why Singaporeans employ maids.

to do housework? because either singaporeans do not have the time to do it or they simply are too lazy to tidy up their own houses thats why they pay so one else to do..

yeah the lazy part is true.. but i think some people will argue that it's because they simply have no time to do it because of work committments... well who do you think should pay for the maid's salary then? and her levy? the husband or the wife?

Both? 50 -50 is the best bet.

Because it is more cost effective to employ a maid versus the time you would have to spend doing it yourself?

I have heard of men saying that their wives should pay because they choose to go out to work... which means that the wife's "duties" (i.e. housework) are done by maids.
But surely the wife has the right to go out to have a career, like the man.
It's terribly unfair in my opinion

will you marry a man who believes women should do bulk of the housework even though both are equally busy at work?

People employ maids to do housework, look after their children and the elderly... even if the maids aren't trained to be caregivers.

Servants do that too but they are paid more, I think.

because we can't afford to have either the wifey/husbands stay at home and we need an extra pair of hands to look after our children/homes.
before you judge any as lazy, how many of you clean/cook/work at the same time? or U just leave it to your mum to clean.. please....
you think it is fun to have another person in your house where your privacy is gone? or you have to pay extra whenever you go out as a family? is it okay to ask your ageing parents to come over and help look about your children?
To some, yes, we do have choice, of not having children, live in a 2 room flat, and live life simple, or even don't get married. But we chose differently.
