the fact that we have to pay for a TV license, regardless of whether or not we own a TV, is already ridiculous.
now you're looking at paying more??? even if you don't like adverts, it's up to the channels to decide. and if they don't have adverts, you've no idea how much more you have to pay.
the straits times will lose 250,000 per DAY if they don't sell adverts and only charge 90c each.
If the govt allowed private ownership of satelite dishes, mediacorp would go bust. Foreigners are prob laughing at how we only got less than 10 channels free while others have hundreds by satellites FOC
ads are not meant for watching. They are meant to rest your eyes.

It also poses the issue of censorship. FOC channels i have ( I am not in SG now),
I seldom watch TV....
Actually I watch those Discovery Channel....Cooking channel....Discovery Travel...etc..
But for other TV channels....what for...
Even for Survivor, I just watch it online....no ads and can skip some segments.
Do blind people have to pay TV licence?
If so, The government are really (Insert Profanity here).
Which reminds me of a comedy routine by George Carlin:
what about people who have tv tuner in their PC but no TV in the house, still need to pay?
thing is, even if you pay $1000 more per household it's not going to be enough to cover FTA's ops if you dun want ads
it's way too costly to operate 1 TV station

True true, at least they have a benefit.

Not necessarily true, countries like Australia have free digital Tv stations. Dont have to pay licensing fees. The funding comes from Television commercials. Why a country like Australia can totally fund its programs from commercials but Sg cannot?

there's no free lunch defintely it gets sponsership or state funding
end of e day it still comes from our $$
A television licence (or broadcast receiver licence) is an official licence required in many countries for the reception of television (and sometimes also radio) broadcasts. It is a form of hypothecation tax to fund public broadcasting, thus allowing public broadcasters to transmit programmes without, or with only supplemental, funding from radio and television commercials. But in SG we pay for licensing fees and we still get lot of Ads! Thats double income for the Tv station.
Btw i dont see any benefit of having a TV in SG. because the programs suck and we can easily rent DVds or d/l
from the net popular sitcoms and shows like CSI
Why watch TV when u can rent Dvds at your own convienience?
Just dont have a TV in yr home lah. Buy a PC tuner, connect to computer/notebook and hook it up to LCD TV with HDMI/VGA and u can get digital, analog channels.
But the problem is Every plasma or LCD Tv comes with a tuner. As long u have a Tv set with a tuner, u need to pay for licensing fees. IF u know how to , just dismantle the tuner part,

I've alrdy said even if we pay $1000 for TV license fee is not enough
cos how many household do we have tat are able to pay TV license fee and how many TV Channels do we have to cater to everyone?
