Cannot eat soy sauce, cannot eat eggs, cannot eat chicken, cannot eat anything lar.![]()
Not so sure about the superstitious stuffs as I don't really follow that. Anyway, the following website might give helpful info about what to eat etc.

Your friend needs more iron, calcium, folate but it shouldn't give her more excuse to eat double the amount of food she usually eats.
Fish is generally good but don't have it too often due to the mercury level in fish.
As for cheeses, hard cheese is ok but do avoid soft cheese. No sashimi (raw) either as they have high chances of giving you food poisoning which might affect the child.

Egg and chickens are fine to eat as long as it is cooked properly. Make sure the eggs are hard boiled and chickens are fully cooked.

Yes, try to eat those fully cooked stuffs. As far as I know it's ok to eat rice, beehoon, noodles etc. Just try to eat more nutritious food that's good for the growth of the baby.
i think more importantly is to eat nutritious food. to build body.
Don't you mommies get advices from the elders, relatives, frends and even strangers? They may have the best intention but I think some advices are best taken with a pinch of salt and apply some logic in today's condition. Any one has 'broken' some of the old wives tales and things still turn out fine or have some die-die must follow taboos?
Feel free to add on to the list... tot it might be interesting and we can all learn something from the old school vs new school thoughts.
E.g. Preggie "advices"
1) Cannot visit other mommies who have delivered if you are preggie cos your baby will be jealous and your preggie will not be smooth.
2) Cannot speak unkind words otherwise it will come true to your own baby.
3) Look at cute baby pictures if you want a cute baby.
4) Don't rub your tummy cos baby will get disoriented and dunno how to turn head down.
E.g. Food "advices"
1) Cannot eat pineapple.
2) Cannot drink cold drinks. Must drink coconut water every day or so 2 weeks before EDD.
3) Cannot eat durian for 100 days after you deliver.
4) Cannot eat mutton otherwise baby will have skin condition and cannot eat chilli too otherwise the corner of baby's eyes skin will have red patches.
E.g. Confinement "advices"
1) Cannot touch water no wait next time rheumatism (oggie we might be stubborn here cos we still "young" and dun feel the effect yet???)
2) Must drink red dates logan only and the red dates must have see so that it is heaty. Latest I heard those with seeds are no good cos it is "sick kind of heaty" not the "keep you warm kind of heaty" but don't buy those w/out seeds cos they use chemical to dissolve the seeds. Buy seed ones and manually take out the seed.
3) Cannot eat veggie??? Dunno why but my 1st cl fed me so much veg that I suspect she really take me as a cow chewing on the grass?
4) Cannot wash your hair for 1 month even with the herbs water. Yucks! I washed after 1 week!
