The king is thailand's head of state. Just like our president, but in their case, they treat him with a lot of respect, almost like a god. The prime minister is the head of government. The PM does day to day running of the country whereas the head of state usually gives general direction in terms of policy and such + perform ceremonial duties + signs bills into law etc. Differs from country to country.

This happens only in Singapore and North Korea.
People of Thailand are tough nut to crack and they got a king to stop this kind of nonsense(dynasty continuing) if it really happen.

i nv said military men will do a good job just look at our GLCs itself can know already...ex-military men holding top positions in GLC...haha..but then i really think that thaksin needs to be kept checked...just in case he become like LKY....

the problem i see here is a vicious cycle.
it doesn't matter the pm comes from which party. because there's always a protest from the other side of the camp.

Not neccesary, those military ruler really know nuts abt managing Thai econ during this tough crisis. All their plan fails and people are losing job, econ cannot be revive. That is why poeple are unhappy and go to street to protest.If Thaksin is back in power and he manage to subdue the slump, will the call to bring him down be strong?

Yeah it's only a matter of time when something happens. Option one: The king enters the mess and gets the protesters to back off. They probably will as they respect their king too much. Option two: Military coup Option three: Abhisit (4 month prime minister) steps down and calls an election. Oh and one more thing, the current PM was blasting the current protesters for breaking the law and he's starting to arrest red-shirt protest leaders. He forgot that it was mass PAD protests that propelled him to power not too long ago. And did he go on to arrest PAD protest leaders? He conveniently forgot that they shut down the airports for days. Heck some of them are even serving in his government right now. He's using and breaking the law at his own convenience. That's politics for him. Hypocrite.

that's a big if, man. even modernized countries like usa, australia still struggling with this issue.

No matter who's in power in thailand, no one will be able to 'subdue the slump' or significantly improve the economy. This recession is due to fundamental flaws in the US economy, namely greed, too low interest rates since 2001, easy borrowing, utter lack of regulation in the mortgage sector (after the FM scandal), risky CDOs that were still rated triple A and the list goes on. Thaksin, whom I personally think can do a better job than many other thai leaders, still won't be able to do much in such an economic climate. -

If you support the ideology of "democracy", then you should be rooting for Thaksin. He was democratically elected as Prime Minister, but unconstitutionally removed by the military.
