What are you planning to use it for ?
My experience is for you to do some homework before you consider buying.
1st those walkie talkie that are permitted to use in Singapore are usually limited to 3km range - when they say 3km - it is 3km flat land !!! I got a set and use in city before - sometime even 100m also have problem !
All walkie talkie 5km and above - are not allow to use in singapore, except for export - yes some shop owners will act dumb and sell it to you.
sim lim
Why are you not considering the handphone?
my attachment boss say ther are not on sale anymore...
i.e. outdated.
walkie talkies... fun :) i rmb playing with it when i was a kid.
I'm planing an outing trip involving 50 students and i have like 5 groups leaders that i need to contact time to time by using mobile phone it will cost so i would like to have a walkie talkie instead. Anybody working in sim lim can check for me? Thanks!
unless u plan to use it also in the future, 3 pairs of it is not cheap..
BTW, do we need to sign up a plan to use the walkie talkie network coverage? Or can use it on the spot?
Those pair you can get for a few tens of bucks won't get you much range. The pricier ones about 150 each should get you about 3km with LOS.![]()
Ok. Motorcyclists when travelling or touring Malaysia usually buys from this shop in Sim Lim.
The packaging says 20km but actually its a distance without obstruction or walls.
In dense populated area, it dont work as well.
And the people might not really know how to handle it. Some dont even hear people paging them thru the walkie talkie.
Police plain clothes teams sometimes supplement their walkie talkies with the store bought ones.
The cheaper ones is roughly around $180 a pair, and it should be Motorola cute cute hand held talkies. It should come with two charging docks for the pair of walkie talkies and it can take up to 4 AA size batteries. Go for the one with more distance rating.
But take note you might have problem bringing them back to Sg, because they are suppose to be export items.
If possible, just buy those phones which you can insert in prepaid phone sim cards. Make sure all the phones carries in their directories of each other phone numbers and emergency numbers of the country you are visiting.
Then when you land in that country you are visiting. Buy those pre paid sim cards top up to top up the phones.
I think some shops in chinatown sells a basic Nokia phone 1200 at $45/- each phone. Comes with charger that you can use overseas because its two prong only.
In other words. Just buy those Nokia 1200 phones, go over to the country you are visiting and buy prepaid phone credits for the people using those phones when you land. And make sure everyone knows each other's new phone number.
But if the communication sets are needed to co-ordinate same movements thoughout, then I understand the requirement for 1 single channel to be shared by all.
Eg.
One person need to bark command for everyone to hear and each has to respond at their predetermined time. Like "Team 1 turn your heads to left, team 2 to turn the head at my mark......blah blah blah.'
i think sim lim got
I not travelling out. Just Hosting a class event.
