Some simple question here.
I play the piano at home, sometimes quite frequently and for long hours. However, my neighbour don't really like all that noise (their sons need to study). The room my piano is placed is just next to my neighbour's study room I think (no other place in the house to put my piano already...not living room, certainly not the kitchen).
I also don't really like to disturb my family members (taking afternoon naps, watch TV, playing computer games).
So I would like to seek advice from fellow forumers of how I can make the room more soundproof? I prefer a cheap and simple DIY soundproofing rather than engaging contractors to install those expensive one, for obvious reasons.
Heard putting carpets on the floor helps. But how about the walls, the windows and the door?
Get thick curtains for the windows, would help in reducing the noise level.
thick curtains, cork or composite wall linings
egg crates, carton boxes, thick carpeting also.
lots of plush furniture also helps, so the more cushions on your sofa, the better.
easiest is just install curtain rails all around the room and get thick curtains. that will be enough to dispate the noise. if you want you can get those double rails and place 2 layers of curtains.
Curtains do the job, those thick thick coverage.
thick curtains and carpeted walls
hmm, why don't U talk to your neighbour?
surely, U can't play for 5-6 hrs, and neither can Ur neighbour's son can do that.
I believe in compromise which may work better.
As for sound proofing, be saving on quality, U may not achieve the best effect, and end of day, U may still affect ur neighbour, hurt ur wallet.

i think that is the way to go. soundproofing ur place isnt as practical. money is required. you willing to spend?
Floor carpets won't stop a damn thing, you might need an inertia block, vibration isolators, and 40mm thick neoprene pads with steel shims. Just kidding.![]()
Get a digital piano, can just use your earphones and nobody can hear a thing. ![]()
Else get pillows to place around your piano. ![]()
Open up your piano, and cut the cables. But becareful, the cables are under tension.![]()
your piano playing must be awful. if not, it will be a complement
