1) where to buy sandpaper? those aluminium / hardware shop got?
2) anyone heard of or use "Nippon Pylox" spray paint before? i went to the shop asking for lacquer but the lady give me this. The one she gave me is Nippon Pylox (clear spray paint). So, clear paint is exactly the same as lacquer? (this Nippon Pylox clear paint is when you spray, it's transparent but provides protective coating)
Sandpaper... hardware shop got. just find the coarsness level you desire.
Nippon Pylox IS NOT IS NOT IS NOT Laquer.
Clear Pylox is just paint that has no pigment its a transparent layer of paint.
Laquer is a brush on layer (though some ppl spray on diluted laquer using spray gun).
it really depends on the work you are planning to do..
Laquer and Pylox is sometimes interchangeable in some cases, and some cases no.

hi! thanks a lot for your reply; it has enlightened me.
i just bought some sandpaper yesterday but the more i sand it, the more powdery it comes. can't believe this.
i think applying lacquer will help, though.
btw, i'm so shocked to know Nippon Pylox clear is not lacquer??!!!!
so, in other words, they do not provide the same end results?!
if that's true, then it may explain why after spraying nippon pylox on the wood, it doesn't have any effect.
i ask the shop owner for lacquer but she gave me clear pylox instead. KNN!!!!!
went to Home-Fix yesterday and can't seem to find any lacquer.
the nearest i could find was varnish (which i believe has the same effect as lacquer).
the problem is that these varnish (the brand is "RonSeal") is expensive as god!!!!!!
one small can 250 ml = S$22.90??!!
It's insane. i thought lacquer usually is 1 big tin about less than S$15 at most?
You did not tell her you want wood lacquer, how she know what lacquer you want?
Even that thing that girls paint on their nails can be aptly named lacquer.![]()
Wah lau, of course the more you sand the more powdery it becomes lar.
The more you sand, the more material you remove leh.
And I'm not talking about the sand from the sand paper.![]()
Of all places you go home fix to buy leh, you know where home fix shops are usually located right? You do know they have to pay high rent for these places right? And to pay high rent, something else has to go up, and its not their salaries.![]()
Google can tell you the difference between varnish and lacquer, try it!![]()

LOL, thanks for the enlightenement, Ditzy!!!!!! you truly is SGF No. 1 Funnyman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
funny sutra!!!!!
Did you take D&T while in Secondary school??
Anyway.. you should brush off or wipe with damp cloth after sanding to remove the powder.
Laquer you should get from Gor Kim Tiam or paint shops.
The important thing about Lacquer is dilution. you need to test on a waste wood.
you can apply few layers of lacquer.. best is apply 2nd layer when first layer is semi dry.. its really an "art" and skill.. because if the first layer is not really dry, your 2nd layer will dilute the first and mess things up.
thanks ponders!!!!!! went to a neighbourhood cheap shop and bought wood varnish today.
and no, didn't pay any attention during D&T classes.....now i regret.
last time during D&T, all i did was to play throughout the class, didn't bring textbooks, didn't do projects, went for stroll during lesson, teacher boh-chup, think of sex during lesson.........aye.
im speechless
