It all depends on how fast you can bbq and if you want your food medium rare.

buy the brand "black gold" it burns for really long(at least abt 4 hours for a A3 size pit), heat also not bad, but start fire need a bit more time than other charcoal,

if jus using one normal size pit, 2 bags of 3kg charcoal should b enough.
mayb u can get 3 bags jus to play safe.

Food for 30 ppl? I don't think 6kg is enough.
Still, you will have to determine like what the rest has said:
- Quantity of food
- Type of food
- Number and size of pits(not armpits)
- How long is the BBQ intended to be
- The coal quality and how u manage them.

Oh sorry mates.. erm no we're not eating people except maybe the children and the neighbours dogs. But this is what im planning on cooking.
150 satay kebab things; SATAY ROCKS btw.
90 chicken wings
about 30 steaks
1 pack o marshmallows
about 5 pineapples (sliced and such obviously)
20 stalks of corn (uncut yet; i.e. 10 packs of corn whereby each pack has 2 corns)
60 sausages.
the rest of the food wont need bbqing. But how much do i need for all that?
Oh. At least one pit. Depending whether my mates can bring theirs. Size is about 2 A3 size papers. My grill will be made from a steel drum.
