Are forums beneficial?

  For me, I would say that forums are beneficial to a certain extent. There are many instances whereby you get the local and foreign news from the forums faster than you can get it from the medias. You have the advantage of having a few thousand people updating the threads in real time. And besides the news, there are the trevias and interesting topics that make the forums a fun place. Of course, there are also the unwanted postings which need to be ignored. All in all, the forums are a good place for serious news and interesting topics.

  Forum is a place with many opinions and little facts...

  Interesting, I agree.

  Seriousness..... i don't think we should take anything in forum seriously..

  Yeah, this is one of the many opinions.

  Anythings are beneficial if you know how to use it.

  You can crap LOL and log off.. no obligation required.

  Sometime i vent my frustration here and sometime i help people here.

  Share info with common interest friends... very accessible..

  see what forums are you talking about

  and the community, and yourself

  if you go to a forums and start flaming then you will find it not beneficial

  if a forum have a community who keep quarreling also not beneficial

  this one is homework ar?

  Many things stated in forums can be free from being "peppered with propaganda" too, assuming whoever typed them do their own research.

  And of course the moderators themselves got to do a good job. Good mods know what I mean. =D

  Forum is a good way to reach out and get opinion,
  Information are within reach too. Knowledge sharing.
  
  Of course there are the no-brainer topics discussed for entertainment sake.

  That is not a good way to answer the question.  If you are going to say "Certain Extent", you must quantify that "Extent" and establish that "Certain."  Hence its just easier to say yes or no.

  Some forums can be beneficial, I have experienced several useful professional forums.

  Hmm...even for chit-chat type of forums, sometimes it can be beneficial, like you can learn about newest happenings, nice restaurants, etc.

  But it's not true that forums have thousands of people updating the topics in real time. Very few forums are like this. Very few.

  For instance take a look at below this page. How many people are online now?
