My course's top students once told me
"In singapore, leadership - everyone also have it"
This came up in one of our arguments of cca results vs academic results.
As my course's top students are mostly like 9 out of 10 are only academic achievers, they have very poor cca records but because of their results, they get chosen for competitions but mostly never win anything.
I am only B+ student but I have a rather above average cca record, I told them I can use that as leverage but due to the course points system, despite have 2 pages full of acitivities against their 2 liners, I have lesser points.
They told me straight in the face, "So what if you're a qualified leader? In singapore, leadership - everyone also have it"
Your take?
To me, they're all talk only. Half of them are introverts who don't even dare to speak up to lecturers except only to pai ma pi and get class participation.
in sch they tok u
outside sch u tok them
u leh u leh?
u got speak up or u oni hide in front of computer and post in sgf
'Leadership - everyone has it'....but they failed to add, except them (the academic achievers.
There is more to leadership than just books alone or sports alone. It's the ability to motivate and lead a group of people to achieving better results, be it in sports or academic achievement.
Brains or Brawns, who is a better leader? Best is of course is one who have both in equal measure, failing which, I must say having brains would make a better leader, BUT only if he/she has other prerequisites of good leadership abilities. If not, then brains alone is as useless as milk that had been spilt.
However, academic achievements is not a requirement in life. Happiness is, and that is to be who you really want to be. Some excel in sports and should be allowed to be trained in that field. Others who excel in arts should be encourage to follow their dreams and be the best that they can be.
A society cannot exist alone with scholars. It needs all kinds of diverse fields together to make a nation great.
And do tell them ( the academic achievers ) they are wrong. You do them injustice by calling them academic achievers, for they displayed naivety if not utter stupidity. Leadership is rare in the real world and not everyone has it. Only pompous fools lay claim to it.
tell them go do auto fellatio
Go study about prominent generals/ commanders in history, and there you have leadership qualities displayed. That's it - wham, bam, done. Good or bad ones, analyse, filter, decide.
Let's see whether your "affable acquaintances" possess them. Or not.
WHATS the big fuss bout leadership?
poor leadership...........inefficient performance...lotsa sweat..curse n swear n threaten to strangle each other.
good leadrrship..........efficient performance...no sweat...close eye also can complete projects.
unfortunately good leadership are as rare as gold from the ground.

I personally feel it doesn't take much to lead people here, especially in docile SIngapore, here people respect titles and ranks, so all management falls on the onus of the leader. So people will do pretty much what you say. I can easily lead people here, but prolly not in Brisbane where colleagues take initiative and constantly question your decisions. I cant say about other places.
I might agree with "leadership everyone has it" since there are LOTS of leader-ship training classes even for 8 year olds HAHA!!! Weird.
But if you take your local leaders and plant them elsewhere in the world, it depends. How well u perform as a leader depends on how well you gell with whoever it is you are leading.
But its not about academics. It's about building rapport.
lots of bullshit lah.....everyone choose to talks about the obverse.
yah everyone got leadership.. good leadership or bad leadership.. lols

A good leader need to have both academic & CCA - why academic provide knowledge to lead, CCA provide experience and interaction with people which leader need also.
"In singapore, leadership - everyone also have it" - yeap it is all a matter of how many people you lead and who you lead !!! 1 person or many , clever or dumb bunch !!!
How about a leadership test in Real Life and Real Time?
There are leaders and there is leadership. Let me lead it in this perspective.
I see Leadership quality inspired and transcend the MASS. The result of leadership is abilities to move the MASS to a same direction or towards the same goal. (Not by force or social cohesion that is to say you don’t give “Order”) everybody agreed and move voluntary.
In Singapore majority are passive protestors. Until I see someone who can inspire Singaporean and wake up Singaporean from their passive cocoon. I would not call your pathetic course work finding as leadership.
You want to talk about leadership Drop your leaders ego first.
A simple example – is not even close to any politics.
This week 250,000 people attended victory parade of the NBA champion Team on Wednesday. It crippled the entire traffic downtown area in L.A. for that morning. 95% of the attendee wore the Lakers T Shirt. Everyone chanted Kobe Bryant. (its almost a Lakers Nation)
The Mgt of the Franchise know how to manage the Team. They Won 15 Championship. Leadership From the owner, to The GM, to The Coach, to The Captain of the Team. And by all means you are not managing employees. The club manager basically managed millionaire.
If you think that is easy think again. If you work in Singapore you will bored down by office politics and egos. Leadership knows how to get thru all levels of conflict resolution.
I had worked in SG and we came up with a high performance team. That team only lasted for 1 year because after everyone make their money their ego was super high and unwilling to give in to office politics.
Talk is easy .. When u put your words to action.. It's hard.
Think of it as the King and his generals.
Like the governator. He is elected to lead.. not to read.
