food wise, the unit's ration master will take care of it and it's very easy (btw, i'm in charge of my camp's meals last time). the other issues are not the main problem as it is mostly food causing issues in this case.
is it because he is Indian from India and that's why SAF treating him like this?!
and considering that SAF will lose any war it fights, let's not talk about operations cos' we have none.
Basically show the world how high tech we are, buying latest gadgets, technology ect.
We only have sh&t like this. Low morale, inefficient operating procedures, Administrative blunders ..lots
If peace time have so much problems, How about war time. SAf will not survive a conventional war, let alone guerilla warfare.

It is girls like u who contributed to the low population birthrate problem and yet talk so much. Now u are dearly paying for it. All of us. Opened the floodgates to let in foreigners to get a free ride and cause more resentment towards NS

indeed. his superior really went too far and if it is him who sent this guy to DB, then he should be discharged from SAF (Dishonorable Discharge of Duties).

i agree totally. Totally. Nowadays, if you read SAF magazines (Pioneer etc) or read news, SAF is talking and raving non-stop about it's latest purchase of the latest fighter planes, latest submarines, latest howitzers, latest destroyer, latest gadetry (how about that handheld network PDA where one carries into the battlefield and use that atrocious stylus pen to send info back to HQ.......u think wartime conditions will let u use PDA as if you're in office environment).......anyone who follows the news will know what i'm refering to.
i sincerely, as a Singaporean, plead with MINDEF to stop dreaming and instead focus more on the troops. Ever since all these 3G crap started, MINDEF seems obsessed with the latest gear and hardware. In battle, the most important thing is soldiers, get real.
making people serve conscription, nobody is happy. The least they can do is to provide better welfare. Every truthful NSF here who served 2 years army knows how low morale is during our NS years. Come on, no need to deny.
In NS, my camp mates always keep reminding each other of ORD dates and the slogan was "Serve and fark off". U think with mentalities like this, Singapore can win war?!

more welfare? till where? Dun forget ppl in Israel serves 3 yr NS or 2 yr for gers and they're fighting in a real war all the time!!!

Bro,Relying too much on technology when it fails. its all over."Serve and fark off" mentality came about because
1) the constant abuse NSF face during NS demoralises them
2) NS itself is too long
3) Reservist
4) low salary
There are ways that mIndef can save $$$.
Let NSF stay out for higher morale, save on food costs
cut down on reservist saves a lot of cost

Well, if you'll stop wanking each other for a moment and consider -
The chap was probably a trainee in the SAF driving school, which from second-hand knowledge is relatively strict. Yet, they allow him to book out THRICE a week instead of once. Muslims, Sikhs, vegetarians...they're all given at most 2 concessions, and he is no different.
And even if he did not give up his booking-out privileges, rations can be easily cancelled in advance (did he even try?), and as long as the hair is groomed or tucked under head covering there should not be an issue. There must have been incidents which resulted in all these rejections, but they aren't revealed to us by the petitioners.
And now he has only dug a deeper hole for himself by rebelling and getting outside interference. The chain of command might be toothless but you have to show that you tried. The biggest shame is that this training is only temporary. After 3 months, a unit life that may be easier awaits, or he could have gone on to become an autotech, which is a stay-out vocation.
is this true or not?

Hm. I don't know if there's evidence for this, but i do wonder if it's true.
If it isn't, and he's being screwed over things as simple as asking for temple food and keeping a tuft of hair, then he has my sympathy.
However, if it *is true, then this guy deserves the s*** flying his way.
So how to fight war if he can only eat temple food?
The guys are just trying to gain sympathy by tell their side and making as if they're the victim.
If there are restrictions, did the family or so call priest inform MINDEF before his enlistment?
Please excuse my ignorance but how do you qualify someone as a priest? Is there some formal test or specially ability that one has to obtain before being deem qualified as a priest?
I know of certain religion whereby anyone can be a religious teacher. No qualification or test required, you just need followers. Even someone with incompleted primary education can be one.

Valid questions. I have my own doubts too.

Bro,
The more religious a person claimed himself to be, the more wary you have to be against him. I have seen and knew a few of these myself. They are often viewed by others to be pious, but when you know them better, you realise that they all have motive and agenda at the back of their mind. Some behave so petty and calculative and expect things to be presented to them free or below cost just because of their status.
Dun ask me for names as it does me no good.
For this priest, ask him to make a vow infront of his God that he had never once thought of making use of the religion to get an easy way out from NS. If he really believe in God he will not make the vow. Because being human, it must have crossed his mind.
Originally posted by darknessfall:is this true or not?
There is no evidence to show whether this is true or it is just a prank.
Chances are high that it is partially true at least though.
