Mudhalvan (1999)
Mudhalvan (1999) is a Tamil political film directed by S.Shankar, later re-made in Hindi as Nayak: The Real Hero. The film stars Arjun, Manisha Koirala and Sushmita Sen. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by AR. Rahman. . The lead actor of Mudhalvan, Arjun has appeared a second time for Shankar in this movie after their debut vehicle Gentleman in 1993 was a runaway success. The story of an ordinary reporter who happens to interview a state minister one fine day agrees to a challenge to act as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu , and makes such a success of it that soon he is embroiled in political intriguey. The hit song Shakalakka Baby by A.R.Rahman went on to gain international acclaim appearing in Ander Loyd Webber's Bombay Dreams and kelly Poon's Soundtracks. Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen also makes a cameo appearance for the song. This film was a tremendous success at the box office and continued Shankar's dream run. It won the Filmfare Best Tamil Film Award in the year of its release -

its not an older or newer film. All rahman fans know that the 1990s is golden period for AR Rahman.There was a style and pattern to his music in that era that is not found now.

AR Rahman, to be honest i like is a style of songs known as qawali, a 700 year old form of music style in North india influenced by aspects of sufism
