Over the years when I buy a new hp, I will keep my old HP. I did not trade them as the HP prices have droped alot and I rather keep them.
I heard that if HP don't use for too long must take out the battery or else it will leak and cause a explosion. Is this true?
I have about 5 HP at home which I don't use but every 1 or 2 months I will on it for about 15 minutes to check to see that it is still working and than off it afterwards. I do not take out the battery and I will charge it too if I see the battery is low.
Is this dangerous?

Same here.
never use for ages, at most just recharge it as the power has been depleted (even though you never used it).
