I am considering doing Foundation Studies at Trinity College and hopefully my grades would prove good enough to enter the desired course at the University of Melbourne.
However, I am told that Australian Universities are not as good as the ones in US and UK - "Persons who can't get into US/UK Universities apply to Australia instead." This is what I was told.
I am currently at an International School doing the A Level course (first year).
What are your thoughts and advice?
Thank you.
oh im wondering how the Aus unis can be of the same breath of let's say, Oxford and Harvard?
oh at the least, Cambridge or Dartmouth ![]()
Hmm.
Well,
Im a student currently studying in Sydney and half my family lives in melb, so i travel to and fro quite frequently, and i know both the victorian and NSW education schools and uni systems quite well.
Ive also gone through this whole tedious process of hunting for a good school. So, let me share some stuff...
alright.. Trinity college is good, not too bad, its a foundation course which does NOT in anyway give you confirmation into your desired uni course. It only allows you a lower ENTER/ATAR/UAI score into that course. And do note: upon completing your studies at Trinity College, you can ONLY apply for Melb uni. Nothing else, as the qualifications are only recognised by Melb Uni.
Yes 1 more thing. You are actually eligible to take up year 12 ( which is JC2 equivilant) upon completing the O levels, if you have (depending on campus) 6 distinctions , and sometimes, you'd be required to sit for an entry test.
Well. 1 more. impt. You MUST be an international student to study at Trinity College. If you're a PR= they dont accept. 101%. If you halfway get PR, your whole study is also gone.
Well, saying that, you could also consider other foundation colleges like the one from UNSW(but thats in Sydney), or Taylors College( which is a foundation for Monash Uni).
But--- i wouldnt really advise on Taylors college. Its either Trinity or UNSW foundation.
The only con abt UNSW's foundation is that you cant enter medicine course in Uni if you take up their foundation studies. All other courses are fine and you will be eligible for them.
Yes, also to answer your question.
The top Australian Unis , in terms of ranking , is not better than those top unis in the US and UK. (this is only if you're comparing top universities).
also, it depends in the course which you wish to pursue.
eg. Harvard is well know for its research in medicine, whereas Washington Uni is well know for clinical medicine.
Yep. All the best!
Go australia study better.
Study finish liao can apply for PR
unrevealed,
it is true.
what is so good about australian PR? I don't even want to touch it with a 10 feet pole.
i am not sure there is a straight answer for this question. you have to find someone who attended 3 universities in 3 different continents.
In recent years there are students who study oversea but also prepared to migrate. So there are other motive behind. So depend upon your goals which better served your needs.
your choice of uni would really depend what you are studying....getting the degree only gives you a foothold, beyond that it's all up to your attitude, eq and iq at the market place....a friend did only so so in jc and poly, later went to deakin uni for 2 years which is not highly rated here, but she got a IT job at an mnc bank, rose thru the ranks and now heads an overseas dept....so there you go, there's more than just a school.....
