On 27 Jun 09 Saturday, the Strait Times has a total 214 pages weighting over 1kg, compiled of 9 parts.
Base on the daily circulation of 389,000 copies, it would need 400 tons of newsprint paper per day. that will be translated to cutting down 3,600 trees for one day's circulation and 188,000 trees for 52 Saturdays 1. Even on normal weekdays, it still has close to 100 pages weighting half a kg, translating to another 525, 000 trees cut down in a year. Adding up weekdays’ and Saturdays’ circulation, a total of almost 700,000 trees have to be cut down every year for this newsprint. Assumption has been made that 30% of recycle fiber has been used to make the newsprint.
Today,05 Sep 09, the stack of newsprint is so thick that it didn’t bother to declare anymore how many pages there is.
My question is: How many trees will be left to our posterity? Can we not see that more and more frequent and severe natural disasters are happening all over the world these days.
note 1. Base on 9 trees per ton of newsprint required. (Essential Guide by Claudia Thompson, Cambridge, MA: MIT press 1992.)
1st, u muz learn to spell.

If just Singapore waste thousands of trees for one day's newspaper. Then what about the combine total for the world's one day newspaper?
Unless, of course, only Singapore uses paper for newspapers.
The trees will be cut. And if it is not utilised, it will just wait to be utilised, or someone else will use it.
that is life isnt it.

Yes, it can be recycled but most people are lazy. They would just throw it into the nearest dustbin they see.
