Ok ok..in singapore where success is measured by your material wealth..everything seems secondary like character, and beliefs.
So if you do not earn much and probably won't start a family since everything so pricey, can you still be happy ?
The reason I asked cause I'm an underachiever and people in singapore looked down on me but I always think there's a destiny for everyone whether you smart or stupid, rich or poor..but can it happen here a miracles or some sort in singapore?
Did you sell out Singapore?
I only look down on people who betrayed Singapore to foreigners.
You may be rich but you behave like a dog in front of foreigners, I will also look down and despise the person.
You may be poor but you fight for interests of fellow countrymen, I will respect and support you.
aiyah only overachievers make it in our small island lah..what all singapore counts:(
talk to our old folks who still have to work past 60 you think they are happy slogging while they should be having rest at their golden years phew...
What are your views on those who pay themselves highest salaries in the world but sold out to foreign aliens and treat locals as second class citizens?
Think of it this way, you're actually a overachiever because you are not stupid.

If you can have ability to pay yourself whatever salary you want, you can also be overachiever. Overpaid in this case.
Maybe what TS is asking is that, in this society where people are taking home high salary (maybe $3000+ $4000+ ?), where people are driving home good looking cars and talking about zeng-ing their cars, where people live in luxurious condos/exquisitely-renovated HDBs and keep talking about wanting to live in even luxurious homes, will those who don't possess all these get looked down on?
TS is that what you're asking..?
Being happy is a feeling
it has nothing to do with money

But in SG, without money....
money can't buy you happiness, it makes misery easier to live with
What is an underachiever, overachiever, achiever or whatever labels others pin on?
The only person who can look down on you is yourself.
So what if you are earning only a $1,000 a month? It is still money. You only need to rationalise your expenditure, cut back on expenses, save some of it, and at all times, ALWAYS seek for ways to increase your earning so that you may enjoy a higher quality of life, which is within anyone's grasp in our society.
You wann go to the movies? By all means. But is it necessary? $5 bucks can get you a dvd at discount stores. $2.50 meals? sure thing - rice, with meat and vege. $1 bus ride? Why not excercise and walk that distance instead?
Need a place to stay? $150/mth will get you a room in a HDB flat.
As long as one has brain, hands and legs, one will not starve. Espacially in Singapore. And it doesnt mean you will always earn only $1000 a month for life. We are a society based on merit, and the opportunities to rise is plentiful, so long as our work attitude is right, with or without certificates. Unfortunately, not many have good working attitudes, or local bosses have integrity.
So be smart and be like the grass - no matter which way the wind blows, the grass still remain planted on the ground - self confidence, resiliance and ADAPTABILITY - the blood of our forefathers that created Singapore as it is today flow through us all.
I'd like to throw in another discussion though, what do you consider an "underachiever"? We all have different goals in life. It boils down to what is that person's aim in life or whatever.
If you work whole day long, earn lots of money to the point that it's more than your children can spend, yet you spend little or no time with your children because of "work", then you haven't achieved what you set out to do.
If you aim to have your own business and be your own boss, when you could easily be earning more working in some big corperation, can you truly say that isn't what you wanted to achieve?
TS. why call yourself the what "under-achiever"?
u have low self estemem?
come on. u won't be happy. those who admit themself as under achiever is loser. they will die a miserable man.
why can'y u just wake up and plan your life better and stupid thinking u are a under-achiever.
a person who keep thinking he is a piece of shit will stay a piece of shit.
A satisfied man is a happy man - but it is no excuse to be "underachieving". Depends on your own personal standards as well.

If you're not doing well, it means you've not found you niche yet. Everyone is good at something, most difficult is finding out what is the something that you're good at and you do very well in life.
