At that time also when we see kids playing at the lonkang we say,'Father mother never teach' because there were many deaths from misadvanture at the monsoon drain. In your case father approved and mother stamped 'Longkang OK'
The good old days when i was 8. I went to the big drain at boon lay and catch fish. " longkang fish " , " Catfish " if really lucky, " Koi ", if really really really lucky " Eeel " Then a few uncles would offer to buy them for $$ depends on what type of fish and size. Good days i make $10++. It was pure heaven.. I could have buy all the ice creams i wanted. Buy all the chips from those " Stall " Homes and Ice Cream only cost 40cents!
Another would be going to Jurong east would be like the biggest topic in my school since none of us even go there..People were alot simpler back in the days..i miss those uncles and aunties who give me free money whenever i board the bus...Dont ask me why they give..I also dont know..
Jurong point had just build and was only 1/4 of its current size.
There was a SAF signal relay unit near Boon Lay Interchange. You can access thru it with crossing the fences by the big drain but inside the compound got wild dogs running around ready to attack intruder.
In the good old days, also went to catch 'fighting fish' at longkang with my cousins. And want to make 'business' quickly find a tree far far away from the main road, climb on top and do business....
You all lucky have father to take you to a longkang,my father once took me to a tall coconut tree showed me how to climb just one time and after that he yelled at me like SAF encik all afternoon until i climbed all the way to the top
