So sad and so unlucky to find myself as the latest ATM fraud victim....
Last night i was trying to withdraw $$ from d ATM, but d machine retained my card, indicating that there might be fraudulent usage. I called the customer service and the operator told me my card was active as indicated on the system.
Today, i went to the bank for a replacement and found that SGD2K was gone. I informed the bank staff and they suggested for further investigation.
Damn the scammers...
Just wana know if any1 of u out there have fallen victim to such ATM fraud... And wondering the chances of recovering d amount if it is proven to be a fraud. ![]()

Never heard before that the machine so smart can retain your card and tell you that there might be fradulent usage

im sure the bank will have your contact no. or home address

Haiz.... blame it on my luck. Just checked with them and they said chances of getting back my $$ is 0... Really sad and upset.. Never had i thought i would be the victim... :(
got bo mata?
seriously, I don't understand the logic and the timeline. (please, can someone enlighten?).
U used ur card to withdraw $$, and it was retained. So during the period it was retained, someone used your card?? or even before u used ur card, someone was fooling around with your account.
if it is the latter, why are you responsible? the bank should be, given U did nothing to compromise your account.

It is the latter 1. The card was already used by some1 else even before i used it. And it has always been in my possession all this while. Neither did I give 2 some1 else or disclosed my PIN to anybody.
I agree with u IceBoy. By right, the bank should be responsible but I am not optimistic about the compensation.
FireIce, just lodged d report yesterday. ![]()
So damn unlucky lately.....
There is a possibility that your card was cloned. Went to somewhere dodgy lately?
The bank can check where that money was withdrawn and take a look at their security camera.
wait care to explain how it happened? cause how can someone use you rcard before you and while it is retained. dont get the timeline
i've read abt ATM fraud in some emails some time back. they say the fraudsters will insert a device into the card slot, and then it in turn cause your card to get stucked. but they could easily retrieve your card without u knowing.
the fraudsters could have peeped at you keying in the pin number, and once they have your card after you left, they can withdraw the money.
that happened in some African countries i remember. not sure if it is happening also in Singapore now. if it is, then all of us have to be caution.

Hi S0nic,
It did happen in Singapore before, and that is the reason why a green-coloured external device has been installed on some ATM machines a few months back.
As for CarterM, I am sorry to hear about your loss, but unfortunately, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back, even if the fraudster is caught. I will strongly suggest that you change your PIN to prevent any further mishaps from happening.
Cheers.

The fraudster withdrawn $$ on Monday and Tuesday noon. My card was retained on Tuesday night when i tried to withdraw $$.
To Man!x, my answer is NO.
Eagle is right. Now waiting for the police officers to investigate.
As for TrueHeart, thanx for the heart-warming words.
I just hope every1 who reads this thread will be more alert and keep track of your account balance as frequent as possible.
Hopefully no one will fall victim to such fraud again. ![]()

How come the fraudster can withdraw money without your atm card?
Did the bank or police ask you for the last few transactions you did with your ATM card before it was retained?
Most likely your card was cloned.
By the classic, fake card slot at ATM with camera overhead.
Or during NETS payment the cashier, secretly swiped your card at a magnetic reader and watched you key the PIN.
I got a friend who got his card cloned when he used it to buy some stuff overseas. He lost 15K in less then a week.
Get a printout of your account (easier if you have internet banking) and you can trace down which particular ATM or store that the culprit used to withdraw or purchase items.. Check the surveillance camera in that place and Bob your Uncle.... you got your man(or woman).

Did he manage to get back the 15k?
No, the money was withdrawn from another country.
Jacknife, I think Mancha is right. My card was probably cloned. And the $$ was withdrawn in SG. The police and bank did check on my last transactions done last week.
That's y every1 should be careful when using the ATM card for payment.

Since yr card is clone and u did not reveal yr number to anyone. It is the bank's security lapse. U shall not be responsible for the loss. U can file complain and ask bank to be responsible for it.

it is difficult to prove that the card is being cloned...
What is the card, and did you use it for phone transaction, or some other transactions (I suspect some inside job by some employees)
Veggie Bao, it is an ATM card. Normally used for bills payment at AXS and SAM.
mlmersrlosers, 1 way to prove the card is cloned is the bank managed to retain 2 similar cards (mine and the cloned), provided the fraudster tried to withdraw $$ again after my original card was retained.
As for CannyOng, I am not sure chances of getting back d $$, but will try to. :)
