Hi pple , i'm been trying to make a hulu ( aka calabash ) water bottle and ... now after all the necessary preparations and work for the final step ... I need something like bees wax to seal the inside wall of the hulu else the water that comes out is gona be horrible tasting so ... does anyone here know where to buy bees wax or maybe even better can anyone tell me is lacquer edible ?
What i mean is if i coat the inside of my hulu with lacquer , will it release anything poisonous or cause any toxic reaction inside with the water ? Cause i planning to put plain water into the hulu for drinking . Please tell me cause i'm left with this final step then i'm done with the inside . Outside is just spraying with lacquer or other decorations .
LOLWUT
u want to be ji gong?
Well if you open your eyes wide enough , you would notice that Jigong is not the only one using that ok . Maybe not in sg but there are other pple using it as water bottle including foreigners . Using hulu as water bottle originated from china maybe even before jigong existed . By the way its not an easy task to convert it from a dried fruit to a water bottle ok .

Ask those PRCs from your friendly food court lor.....maybe they can whip out a bag of ulu hulu and sell you 10 for $5.
Actually i have the hulu myself , but having a hulu doesn't mean u can straightaway use it to store drinking water ok . There are many steps to do before you can store water inside . So even if you tell me you can give me 100 hulu . You still need to do alot of steps just to clean it and to be able to store drinking water for every single one of it . By the way i grow my own hulu ok .
Can i reccommend you SIGG?
this is the 21st century n we r in singapore. why would any one wanna use a hulu water bottle?
unless u r a Ji Gong medium
so just stick to an ordinary plastic water bottle which u can buy in NTUC Fairprice supermarket.
Some guys dreamt of becoming da lu mei sha shou.....carrying a hulu gives them more topic to talk and have something in common. ![]()

Hi TWE,
Lacquer is not edible. They are toxic, and some types of lacquer are also flammable.
You can try Art Friend for beeswax though.
Cheers.
Thanks alot dude , your info is deeply appreciated .
By the way trueheart , what do those pple use for making those wooden bowls finish ? Since you say lacquer is toxic and flamable then what do they use as finish for wooden bowls and cups ? Shellac ?
Ok now i left pure beeswax . May i know where can i buy pure beeswax in singapore ? i went to artfriend but they only have beeswax which are mix which parafin ( 60%beeswax and 40% parafin ) . As i notice parafin can be toxic if not properly handled . And since i intend to use it for coating the inside of my hulu , i prefer to play it safe .
