I am writing a formal letter which is going to say i will try to do it by tmr, but then i dun wanna promise it.

you know if you are writing a application job letter....put forth your best is never good enough.....
Just DO IT.
"I will do this and that, *hopefully* by tomorrow."
try my best is ok what
"I will get it done, most probably by tomorrow, or by Friday "
Do not say try. Try is not good enough. You must do it.
My term contractors, I don't allow them to try, I tell them DO IT.

aiya, as long as you get the message across will do. singaporeans like to use very complicated english. at work, i always receive emails from americans, british and other europeans, they use simple and easy to understand english. thus, no need to use big words.
I remember a very funny instance.
My law professor in Uni sent me a jumbled up email, full of errors, misspellings, wrong words, and he was from America. I was shocked at that time. You wouldnt believe it, it's a chaos, like someone is drunk.
