After much delay, construction of a new mall on the former Jurong Entertainment Centre site has begun.
The mall, to open in the first quarter of 2012, will have a net lettable area of 204,000 sq ft - double the size of the original mall - with rooftop garden, an Olympic-sized 30m by 60m ice-skating rink and a cinema. Its facade will resemble a glistening ice-cube.
It will be named JCube and will be eco-friendly. It will be fitted with energy-saving features such as a rainwater harvesting tank and a water recycling system for the ice rink. Waste heat from the ice rink chiller will also be recycled to heat the water at the rink's shower rooms.
It is also likely to open late, or even 24-hours, to meet the demands of shift workers in the area.
