the tiger attack is just a myth circulated ard.
more probable reasons are to prevent their valuables from being stolen that's why they wore on their necks and also wearing rings on the neck means they won't be taken away by other men in other tribes.
and hor, the rings push their collarbone and shoulder blade further down that's why got the illusion that they grew longer necks because of the rings.
