Recently I notice most of the restaurant round up the total bill charges instead of round it down if you pay in CASH!
Maybe this has happend many years but I did not really border it untill recently I started to look into this matter.
For example: total bill S$ 54.17, you paid $54.20, $86.76, you paid $86.80, $ 63.58, you paid $63.60.
This increased the profits for the restaurant if you pay in CASH!, if you pay by NETS or Credit Card, you will not get panalty for pay in cash.
This is not too etchical because if you pay in cash, the restaurant do not need to pay additional charges by credit card company or NETS, so the restaurant should incentive those people who pay in cash and give them a round down instead of round UP.
If there are 100 customers served who prefer tp pay in cash, said average $0.02 per customer, one day additional profit is $2.00, 1 year additional profit is $730.00.
Should the restaurant round up or round down for cash payment customer?
3-4 cents u so gey gao meh
i think they round down, at least the ones i go to
supermarkets too
i always check my receipts.
scrutinize, to be exact.
and if u pay by nets or cc, they dont round off at all
They round up because of additional labour cost used to handle physical cash.![]()
Not because I gey gao about 3-5 cents, but I think business must be please customer to bring in more customers ma.
I think it will be unfair to charge more for customer who pay cash.
So far I not yet come across any restaurants that round up for cash payment, perhaps you could name one or two? I normally pay by cash, unless I need to fulfill some quota on my cards to keep the annual waiver in check.

Companies should round down.
1-4 cents less makes happy customers. 1-4 cents more creates grumbling customers...
ya, there is lot of different to the eyes between $2.99 and $3.00, i used to sell papayas at $1.99, and people say, very cheap, only a dollar plus, hope u understand sales and marketing strategy.

When i see $1.99, i say to my friend, this thing selling for $2, i still expect my 1 cent back.
When I see $2.53, i dont expect to be charge $2.55 or $2.60.
