Dear all,
I would like to hear your opinions on whether people will judge you based on the school you are from. Strict meritocracy is practised in Singapore and most people judge others based on their academic results and the school they are from(some may deny but this is definitely true to a certain extent). Do you think people in Singapore are too affected by branding? I am from a mid-range junior college in Singapore and some people i know have already pointed out that i am "lousy". Super Demoralising.
Dun tink too much. End of day still depends on your university or poly ... nobody really cares about which JC / Sec / Pri school you are from.
yah. when ppl hear which schools i from, they always go FWAH!!! leh!
hahaha. you're from HCI?
No difference lah, you earn more money than them can alraedy
well, at least I can say for sure that if you are going for govt job, you will be judged on your academic results. Some govt companies have their job application forms to get the candidates to fill in details of their academic results.
A good benchmark will be the schools attended by our Ministers. RI, ACS, Chinese high...
Everything is about package and branding, even the family background comes into the picture when they decide on your employment. The rich hangs out with the Rich and Powerful.

Flashy cars on campusContributed by Shivali Nayak More luxury cars have been spotted on campuses these days - and they don't belong to the staff.
Undergraduates are not just chasing degrees these days. Some of them they are also chasing milestones, like owning their first car before graduation.
One such person is Nur Ilham, a first-year student from the National Institute of Education, who has yet to graduate but has already gotten his first car.
The 21-year-old owns a Chevy Aveo 5 that cost him $57,000 and is fully paid for - by him. He worked part-time to finance his car payments.
Other undergraduates are even luckier.
First-year undergraduate Asri drives a Volkswagen Beetle, while final-year Electrical and Electronic Engineering undergraduate Wong Kah Wai drives a Lexus. These cars cost well over $100,000 each, all paid for by their parents.

Well, I would think it's pretty stupid of that Aveo 5 chap to spend off his part time remuneration on a depreciating asset. On the other hand, if one has money to burn, why not? haha

LOL... I agree with you. If you work part-time for a car... thats plain stupid.
越越 OT
Yes there are such people.
Just ignore the elitist bastards.
There will always be someone out there who is better, smarter and more successful than you are.
So no point comparing with them.
As long as you're happy with what you have, other people's opinions don't really matter.
Branded education is kinda irritating.
I like to judge others based on what they show me they can do and not what they tell me they can do.
