questions about young people/generation in Singapore

  hi everybody, I'm new here, and from Indonesia (i'm chinese-indonesian),
  also from Gen Y (born in 82) generation.
  
  just got back from Singapore to my home country.
  and what I am somewhat really amazed and found surprising is how 'creative' and 'stylish' it seems the young people/generation in Singapore are!
  many of them are wearing IMHO very 'cool' even unique fashion, freely expressing themselves (seems like a part of "Asian recent pop-culture"?), and also plugged with iPod,
  playing with latest technology like iPad, iPhone, basically very tech-savvy.
  
  I am really amazed and find all of them to be very COOL! :)
  
  now my very curious questions about these young people are:
  1. are some (or many) of them already working? or still confused finding work/job?
  2. if already working, in what jobs/fields do these young generation usually choose to work in? and is it just my feeling, or it's true that MOST or many young people now would definitely prefer more 'creative-oriented' (ie: design, art, music, game, movies, animation, etc) or 'technology/futuristic' kind of job/career, as opposed to the "normal/9-to-5 ish corporate" jobs?
  3. are they generally more 'rebellious' in attitude & personality, yet also they express the RIGHT voices/opinions and seem to know the 'bullshits' in corporate culture, and thus freely expressing them?
  4. are they seem to be friendlier with other people from other culture? ie: not so much 'barrier', racism, etc? ie: perhaps more 'advanced' way of thinking or philosophy in life than older generation?
  
  I am very very curious regarding what are these young 'cool' generation (Gen Y?) doing now in Singapore.
  so any information would be highly appreciated much!

  Dinkotddr, your question #4 suggests that you are trying compare racism in the past and present, my opion would be that todays gen should be open minded and more exposed to and familiar with different races....

  the way i c is so gloomy rather, cant still see that spot - on...

  Dinkotddr, yes, spore gen Y is cool, up to date in fashion, having the latest technology is a must too. Also creative, daring, intelligent, and voices in expression. You will not be able (hardly  find a) to see a country bumking here in Spore anymore.

  P.S. It's not cool listening to ipods in the train~ It's just a way to kill time :)

  Creative and Stylish, yes.
  Strawberry generation, yes.

  Fashion-sense... Very stylish... tends to purchase clothing that attract attention :) this is our younger generation.

   

  I think you are sincere, and here is my humble point-of-view.

   

  1. Still studying :) Ladies may be working, Guys may be National Service, JC, 1st uni. Current generation youth do not have the mentality to work! They sought for fun things in life and continue studying and studying for a long time before finding a work they like.

  2. Younger people prefers job that are fun, challenging (yes! it's true), exciting, and fulfilling.

  Current generation youths wants a challenging job thus demand higher pay. :) Any job that has pay good salary will attract the current generation youth. On top of that, our youth will go for entry management level jobs as a starting due to their capability. (tsk tsk tsk.. time is changing).

  3. For ladies are more rebellious at the current generation. Spoon-fed characteristic are observed, and have their own mind. Singapore Male (after NS) will be able to control their temper/mood better thus able to take hardship without making noise.

  4. Current generation youth are more open to thoughts and philosophy. :) Unlike the older generation, our youth today are more friendly (with a little reserved) in meeting people from other culture. Perhaps due to the open-mindedness of our youth.

  yes we are all snobbish ELITES yet friendly on the surface...

  but now...we are smoked frogs....care to write a letter to your govt about the situation of smouldered GEN Ys here (including yourself)?
