Becoming a hawker is not an easy task. bcos wat u sell is secondary. interest and passion play a big part in wat u are doing. for eg. if you have interest in really starting a business to sell food, there is one thing maybe u can try, look for those really nice to eat stall, ask for their franchise and look for a stall and start e ball rolling.
i think bringing in food that u normally won't see being sold in hawker centre is the way to go....or retro food...

I have many ideas of what to sell but don't know how to make or cook them. So how ?
sell back side
think should go for basic courses of cookery or ask for stall franchise, so that they will teach u their skill, then u can take a stall n start selling...
Sissy Hippo had a good idea too. jap food is nice, u can start with those simple jap food, sth like our Old Chang Kee style... deep fry tempura, sweet n sour fish cake... when business running good, u can intro e bento n ramen in slowly...

Not really. There are a few supper places they go, like Old Airport Road, Changi Village, Serangoon Gardens...
It depends.
Real advice:
1. If you are not prepared to get dirty and work long hours, forget it.
2. If you haven't any experience cooking or working in a blue collar environment, forget it - unless you really have a passion for cooking and is prepared to endure the heat, oil, long hours and even sacrificed your health for the period.
3. If you want to employ somenone else to cook for you, forget it coz that will be the day!
4. If you do not know how to calculate a breakeven scenario and have a grasp of the various cost elements and how you should price to make a profit, you will need help.
4. If you are only trying out an idea without knowing much about your customer type, what the success factors are, forget it. It won't work.
5. If you think you can open up a stall and then start collecting money from day one without really having to prove yourself, forget it.
Many people have ideas. And they have tried out. And all of them failed. Even some who copied others who succeed also failed.
If anyone says he can advise you but haven't actually rolled up his sleeves and worked as a hawker, he is just an opinated person. If anyone who is a real hawker and is giving you advice, his advice may be informative but not really useful.
Running a hawker stall is not different from running any other business. Hawkers have been lucky in the past. But it is cl;ear that with increased competition, makreting knowhow is necessary.
