USS Liberty..........America’s spy ship, was attacked by Israelis disguised as Egyptian forces that killed 37 sailors and wounded 174 seriously. According to the plan of Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Dayan, the Liberty would have sunk and Egypt blamed for the attack.
Liberty was listening to Israeli military communications, to prevent Israel going to war with Syria and provoking a U.S-Soviet confrontation. Dayan ordered the attack to prevent it giving warning of his intentions to attack Syria after he had taken the West Bank of Jordan.
As it happened, Israel’s last land grab of the war was the Syrian Golan Heights .
Israel’s attack on the Liberty ought to have been a headline-grabbing news story, but wasn't reported by American news. Instead....... President Johnson called off American warplanes scrambled to help the Liberty out of fear of offending the Zionist lobby in Congress, and ordered a cover-up to this day.
