why is there such a big difference in the prices of absolut between dfs and any other shop in singapore that sells it (e.g fairprice)
i bought a bottle of absolut citron at dfs changi for 24.60. when i went to fairprice, it costs 82 bucks??!!
why is there such a huge difference in price?
DF stands for duty-free
duty free meaning no custom duties, but custom duties can be so much?
82 - 24.60 = 57.40??
How come a brand new honda civic in Australia costs only AUD$19999, when the same car found 2nd hand in singapore costs S$35000?
My goodness where have you been living for your whole life until now ? Don't be surpirse by the price of cigerettes oversea and duty free also . And also why does toyota/honda can't remember rave 4 cost only Canadian $35000 in canada and it cost SGD$75000 here ?

If cars in singapore were sold at OMV prices, this city would be doomed.
This gives me some ideas.
But that DFS shop....is it only for passengers, or anyone can enter ?
(is the shop location after immigration checkpoint)
Please tell me and thank you,

Duty-free means there is no tax on the alcohol. Meaning, the alcohol is sold is it is, no country tax on top of it.
Fairprice, or any retail for that matter pays the tax for the alcohol when they purchase it from the alcohol distributor. Hence they will need to markup the price for a profit.
Another heavily tax item in sg is tobacco.
* Formulae for computation of duty payable on liquors:
a) Formula
Duty = Total quantity in litre x $70.00 x % of alcoholic strength
b) Example : Importation of 100 litres of Port Wine with alcoholic strength of 19%
Duty = 100 x $70.00 x 0.19 = $1,330.00
Still have to add GST on top of this. ![]()
i love port.
