A naked 19-year-old teenage girl was found hanging on to a lamp, screaming for help, on the second-storey ledge of The Fullerton Hotel Singapore at 5am last Thursday, reported The New Paper (TNP).
She was rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force using a ladder after her hysterical screams for her mother alerted hotel employees.
The woman was attending a company function at the hotel the night before, and was believed to have had some drinks. After the function, she checked in with another three female colleagues.
When her colleagues went to sleep, the teen — clad in a bathrobe — climbed onto the ledge of the balcony of her second-storey room.
After walking past five rooms along the balcony, she tried to turn a corner and lost her balance. She managed to cling onto a lamp, but her bathrobe fell off.
Lianhe Wanbao reported a member of a filming crew who was there filming a movie heard her cries and scaled the wall to comfort the woman.
General manager of The Fullterton Hotel Singapore Giovanni Viterale told TNP an employee alerted the SCDF. “All our staff are trained to pre-empt situations of uncertainty as guest safety is of utmost importance,” he said.
The SCDF received the call for help at 4.55 am, a spokesman for the SCDF said. Five minutes later, they came with two fire engines, an ambulance and two support vehicles carrying rescue equipment.
The teenager, who did not have any visible injuries, was taken to Singapore General Hospital.
A police spokesman said she was arrested for attempted suicide and referred to the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment.
The teenager’s colleagues said she was going through family problems, while her uncle told TNP the woman’s parents were divorced and she was close to her father. The teenager declined comment.
