Of course its useful. Avg salary depend on where u work, some big companies pay more, some small companies pay less, some big companies pay less, some small companies pay more.
You can do business, or any other thing with an engineering degree, but you cannot do engineering without an engineering degree.
Philosophy.
If everybody took finance / accounting / engineering / medicine / law and nobody took philosophy, then you would be a prized commodity amongst your peers since you are the only one with a philosophy major.
