Unfortunately young people like hiroko who's english educated and cosmopolitian are just a minority in japan that can never be a great force enough to change the land of rising sun....most I think are not diplomatic and congenial enough towards foreigners residing there who work and pay taxes

singapore is multi-racial. cannot compare.
Perhaps she was refering only to ang mos or those don't look "oriental" in her perspective. If u're chinese, korean, taiwaness etc and fluent in japanese, if should be fine...
